Thousands of dockworkers are poised to walk off the job Tuesday, as their union and the U.S. Maritime Alliance remain at an impasse in negotiations. The work stoppage is expected to involve 14 ports and roughly 25,000 workers. CBS News senior transportation correspondent Kris Van Cleave unpacks the strike's potential financial impact.

That union rejected a 50% pay raise over a period of 5 years! They already make more than 3 times the average American.

Why are they talking like they aren't on strike right now? They've been on strike for 11 hours now

What is it the owners say when they stand together and monopolize to bend the peasants over a barrel to get what they want???

"Welcome to capitalism!!"

But when the peasants stand together to get a nice piece of the pie all of a sudden it's "socialism" or "communism".

We bailed the owners out in 2009 and 2019 and they left us in financial crisis each time.

Now it's time for them to pay up.

The dockworkers strike means the October surprise came early. Any administration gets blames for this shortage of goods.

If it does result in fewer imports, that’s a supply shift that is bad for American consumers, good for American businesses. What we’re told: these labor unions are hurting consumers!

I’d say the solution would be to work with both the unions and tech developers to gradually phase in automation with robust retraining and compensation packages for workers. It would allow for a smoother transition that doesn’t just leave people jobless and angry. And, yeah, in the long run, it might actually create better-paying, more skilled jobs, as long as the safety net is there for workers during the shift.

They should also protest for better assurances in healthcare ... Because everyone hurt on job that falls under Longshore DBA.... Knows that Department Of Labor makes it easier for insurance companies like AIG to present their over the Workers

These docker workers earn more than $55 hr. That is 115K a year. I am leaving my IT role. This is embarrassing.
