I tried this on my son (11) to try it out. When he was done telling me about his problems he paused, looked me in the eye, and said “Thank you daddy for listening to me.” It was my first try and it felt good. He understood that I listened.

I have 2 crews in the field in my yardwork company. I just called them under the guise of checking to see how everyone is doing. I practiced mirroring and was dazzled by how much the first crew member called responded! She was telling me all about what they were doing and where they were in the scope of the project. The more I mirrored with the raising voice, the more excited she got to tell me more!

I started reading this book in anticipation of a job offer and wanted to hone in on my salary negotiation. I just finished chapter 2 and love that there are videos to accompany the text 😍

Innately, human beings by nature want the opportunity to personally say themselves, “yes” or “no” (i.e. decide), and yet average individuals ignorant of communication principles (i.e. average sales persons or negotiators and average parents/leaders) take this opportunity away from people they talk to or interface with, daily. Example: Buyer asks, “do you have a red one?” Average sales person will say, “yes/no!” A trained professional will respond, “would you prefer it in red?” The “mirror technique” simply demonstrates how a “selling party or negotiator” wants to “confirm/understand/clear” things before responding. The technique simply says, “answer the question with a question, ” or simply “mirror” key words being mentioned, then respond accordingly, if there may be uncertainty or a need to probe issues or understanding. “It’s pretty cold, Papa!” Papa’s average response, “It’s freakin’ hot! I’m perspiring!” ... a great parent would have replied, “Cold? Are you feeling OK, son?” 🙏

LOVE all of your videos. I’m a huge fan. Suggestion: always put titles and explanation script up on screen for minimum of 4 seconds. That’s standard so people can read it. ❤️
