Specialized Diverge - Installing Rear Rack on Carbon Frame

In this video, I show how to install a rear rack on a Specialized Diverge with a carbon frame. I'm using a 2018/2019 model, but this may be applicable to other years and models as well.

Jonathon - Quite the coincidence, I was at the bike shop this afternoon looking for a rear rack, and the whole process was explained to me there. Then I came home and stumbled upon your video. The problem, of course, is that you need the altered seat clamp in order to install any rear rack on the Diverge. By the way, Specialized is out of the 30.6mm clamps which of course is the one I needed. I was told that they may be back in stock in about two weeks. Loved your page. I'm a new subscriber.

Good idea to use a M5 washer between the rack and the frame to save the paintwork ;-)

My buddy just bought a Specialized Diverge and wants to do some touring with me. Nice to see the Diverge can accommodate a non proprietary rack. Had the same worry regarding my Salsa Fargo but was pleasantly surprised it could take a cheaper off the shelf rack.

Yea, after my first bike packing trip on my 52cm Diverge, using a large 16L Ortlieb seat bag, Blackburn Designs frame bag & Elite handlebar bag, I'm realizing that Panniers make so much more sense! With such a small frame/frame bag, and the front roll having to fit between the drop bars I wasn't able to carry very much at all! It would be difficult to do a trip that required me to carry more of my own food/water. Sure...there's kind of a "badass" attitude that goes along with just being minimal but there's a BIG difference between what fits in a 52cm frame and a 58-60! I wish they had fork mounts...at least the new 2021 Diverge will (of course I just bought mine last year!!!)

2020 Carbon Sport also comes with the threaded collar installed stock as well. Extremely helpful video, by the way. Thank you.

I did this on my Kanzo Adventure gravel bike with 20kg of luggage on the back with a 24 spoke wheel. Worked perfect. No defects. But I would recommend more spokes (32)

One added point is to consider using bolts that are more security oriented to discourage theft. Hexlox is one of several types that are used for this purpose as are Pitlocks. A cheaper alternative would be to use pinned hexagonal bolts, not as secure but most probably will work perfectly.

can you tell me what screw size you used for the rack mounts and do they come with the rack? is it a 5m or a 6m? im trying to get a quick release rack from ortlieb but i can't determine the size because i have no screws lol 😮‍💨

Hello can I ask if you know that the stock diverge comes with the rear rack seat collar clamp. I ordered one with my LBS and when the item came it’s looks identical to the one which is on the bike 😊😂

hi I have the Specialized DIVERGE E5 COMP GRX Gravelbike - 2021 and 12mm offset, 2-bolt clamp, 27.2mm. It has threads in. Do i still need the 32mm clamp ?
