*Psychedelic mushrooms really made a positive difference for me in dealing with addiction and depression. They've had a significant impact on my mental well-being, surpassing the effects of antidepressants*

I did 18 sessions of ECT. It did not make me better and actually made me worse. I was a brilliant software developer before then and now I struggle to read a book and have memory problems. Several years of memories were lost. I'm still trying to recover my brain power. Please don't let anyone you know do ECT until you have exhausted all treatments, legal and illegal. They don't give proper warnings before you agree to accept treatment. Saying that, I've seen it bring a woman out of depression that was basically non-responsive and she came alive again due to ECT.

I had around 25 ECT treatments and I believe that it was way too many back to back. I lost so much of my memory, I still have severe word loss, contributed to my chronic pain, and I can't remember if it helped but it didn't for long if it did. What I needed was Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and when I got that years later, it saved my life

I just started ECT recently, just had my 3rd treatment this morning. I finally feel as if I’m climbing towards the sun after spending a lifetime in the dark

i've had treatment resistant depression for around 7 years, been on more medications than i can count on my fingers. last year i did tms 5 days a week for over two months. i had pretty significant reduction in symptoms for a couple months, then back to normal. when i told them it wore off they wanted me to come in for another course. some ppl will have results that "stick" for longer, some wont experience any relief at all. it's a crapshoot, just like antidepressants. worth a shot if you have really good insurance.

I personally would never get anything done to my brain ECT nor TMS.. I nearly died in 2020.I was suicidal all year because I have OCD and I got triggered during the pandemic. I couldn’t keep myself safe enough. Mytherapist suggested I get ECT. I refused and was in bed for nine months, extremely depressed, but I will never ever go near these options. No one takes responsibility when they ef up

I did 19 sessions of ect. I regret it immensely. It didn’t work, and gives me huge memory problems, which go as far back as 5-6 years. The last session was a month ago, and I keep forgetting a lot of things from one week to the other and cannot learn new things. I definitely am not as sharp as I used to be. Also, it is extremely traumatizing to see people getting ect who are forced by a judiciary decision and cry for help. It is a violent treatment. I was NOT warned of these potential side effects. Doctors tell me they don’t know if my memory will come back. I cannot work, I am even more socially awkward, I am slow. Please don’t do this.

The people who I know that got ECT felt better for about 6 months and then the depression got worse again.

Ect not helpful for me. I’m not sure how many treatments I did over what span of time. But I lost my memory for about two years. I don’t remember my daughter from age 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 I wouldn’t try it unless you’re desperate.

Oh I'm so glad my Latuda kicked in and Tegratol. I had to get off lithium cuz I was on it for 26 years and it was causing kidney function. 15 months unstable but we finally found a good cocktail of meds. But yes I will always be open to ECT because my depression is really bad. Bipolar depression

I know someone who finally healed her gut with Functional Nutritional medicine who had over 100 ECTs and now has permanent physical impairment from it and the Rx drugs that were given to her (which never worked) for a Mental "illness" she didn't have, the symptoms of which were caused by Mold Toxicity.

I did 32 ECT treatments and it did NOT help me at all, had the worst side effects and left me (even with insurance), $5, 680 in medical debt.

I'd really like to ask a therapist one question. I want to know if I should go back to therapy. I was doing therapy for a while, and I thought it was going well, but shortly after diagnosing me with avoidant personality disorder the therapist told me we should take a break, and I never heard from him again. I feel like he gave up on me. I don't know if it was meant to be a test, or just bad practice, but it seems to me like that is the worst thing you could do to a patient after diagnosing them with avoidant personality disorder. Now I don't know if I should contact that therapist again "its been like 5 years", or if its even worth doing therapy at all.

This type of therapy & medications need to be explained to the actual patient not forced onto the patient through the patients family.

It’s unfortunate that so many people had these bad experiences with ECT. Both I personally and several friends and family members have had wildly positive experiences with it. I have severe depression and schizophrenia in my family, and ECT was the only thing that worked to give me a normal life. It may seem scary, but everyone shouldn’t immediately write it off. 😊
