Best part about Game Awards was when Larian won the GOTY and Swen was talking about the employees that dying during covid while the prompter showed "Please, wrap it up", truly one of the momments of all time

I thought the game awards was supposed to present video games as a legitimate medium, equivalent to movies. And yet they showed way more respect to movie celebrities than people of the game industry when it was supposed to be their moment. Not even a word about how terrible this year has been for the industry. Treating game devs like an inconvenience. This was downright insulting.

Agreed. Calling it "the game awards" is disingenuous. They treated it as a marketing/promotion show with short award sections

Larian: We want to dedicate this award in memory of our dead friends and collea-
Geoff: Wrap it up you're standing in the way of my AD revenue $$$

The fact that they didn't even acknowledge Charles Martinet, the literal voice of MARIO, officially retiring this year is also wild to me.
Idk if he's been in any controversy that I'm not aware of, but to me that's a real celebrity related to the video game world.

If memory serves, of the 48 minutes dedicated to the Game awards, only around 10 minutes were actual award speeches.
And the fact that they turned on the "Please Wrap it Up" sign *while* someone was talking about someone who DIED, that tells you everything you need to know. Especially when the "Please Wrap it Up" sign was ONLY EVER turned on during the acceptance speeches.

This is the first time I felt actual anger from Josh bubbling under all the sarcasm.

the massive "WRAP IT UP" sign in the show to tell people who weren't sprooking spoke for more then 30 seconds was disgraceful

Imagine working on a game for 6 years, losing people during Covid who been working on the game with you only to be told “Please, wrap it up” after you win game of the year. My blood would be boiling trying to not lose my composure. Such a awful disgrace to gaming

Seeing Todd sitting there absolutely S.E.E.T.H.I.N.G was the highlight of the show. You can tell he really believes he made an 11/10 game with Starfield. Its a rock solid 6/10 game.

I was stunned how many awards they just read, without actually letting anyone from the games that won actually set foot on stage, or say anything at all. I was also glad that I watched them in post, and was able to fast-forward to skip the vast quantities of pfaff.

Something that is worth to point is that it's VERY clear/apparent that The Game Awards is very, VERY ashamed of being a gamer award. Instead of being a celebration of videogames, it's trying really hard to appease to everyone, inviting hollywood celebrities that have NOTHING to do with gaming.

Timothee, Simu, Anthony and Matthew were really out of place, specially Simu/Anthony who apparently are way more important than Larian because they were allowed to do whatever they wanted to and they took all the time to do their cringy bits (which besides of being cringy it's was really bad. They were trying REALLY hard to create a Keanu moment and now, no matter what, they are gonna be known as the cringy pointy scream dude and the cringy "backstory" broken feet dude).

I have nothing against them but it was really disrespectful that Geoff allowed them to do whatever but they rushed and shamed all the winners of the award, including GOTY

TGA is just a reflection of what the game industry became, extremely commercial and cynical, to the point it killed E3.

The part I was most excited for was Neil's speech if he won (so glad he did, he earned it!) He was so excited, he was so emotional, he went through so much. And after 20 seconds, the middle of his thanks, they rushed him off. It's just fucked

Work real hard for 6 years, dodge bankruptcy several times, create the best game in a decade, and we will allow you 30sec to talk about it. Job well done.

Neil not even getting more than 30 seconds for his acceptance speech was infuriating.

At least, if you want superstars on stage, invite the actual supergamer : Henry Cavill. 😄

My favorite part was when they would speedrun a half dozen awards off stage without anyone accepting them a few times during the show.

The nepotism is always something that doesn't seem real until you experience it. A local brewery had a contest for local artists to design labels for a can, and I made a submission. Out of curiosity, I scrolled through the social media post to see who else might be entering. I found out that the contest got city funding after it was announced, and so a city councilor was made a judge, who was very openly close friends with one of the contestants. I don't think I need to tell you who ended up winning.
It's a small thing, but it is disheartening to piece it together before a winner is even announced and realize "oh, I wasted my time, didn't I?"

Last year they had Christopher Judge just sit on stage for 8 minutes. This year they made a 180 and rushed people off the stage after 30 seconds. They were overcompensating and in the context of how many adds where shown at the awards compared to the awards being handed out and talked about, it really left a foul taste in people's mouths.
