The technology and understanding of nuclear power and keeping the reactors cool has advanced quite a bit in the past four decades.

Nuclear power is the cleanest power available. You need to have base power grid.

In the U.S. From conception to bringing a nuclear plant online is 20 years due to all the red tape.

Because google needs the power to feed its virtual intelligence monster.

It didn't help that the government said before the accident, "Make all the dials and all the controls look the same". It's an emergency and you have to remember which of the hundred controls (that all look alike) will save your a$$!

I was at TMI for their final refuel. Nuclear power is definitely the best bang for the buck compared to wind, coal, or solar! Glad to hear they're bringing it back online!

I worked at 7 different nuclear power stations in my career. They were beautiful, clean, well maintained. Wish the utility industry would build more of them.

The 70’s and 80’s are a far cry from where we are today with that type of tech. Being afraid of literally nothing and saying “we’re in uncharted territory” is kind of irresponsible as a capable adult with unlimited access to the internet. This is exactly the type of story I’d expect to hear from The NYT.

Homer, your bravery and quick thinking have turned a potential Chernobyl into a mere Three Mile Island. Bravo.

WOW! An unbiased, factual, uncolored report. When does that ever happen?

This is great and I wish there were more nuclear power plants. So many were cancelled or left unfinished that should have been built

Those pictures of the control room and the control boards look like equipment from the 1950's.
Modern control rooms today consist of a couple of monitors and all the old hardware is computerized.
Computers can run these things automatically, from startup to shut down, including a loud speaker that says, "RUN".

Nuclear power has a lot of bad press but it's a fantastic resource to invest into

The tech is so old. Are they planning on updating the tech? Nuclear has come so far. 3 miles island is a generation 2 reactor. They're up to gen 5 commercially and gen 6 in the labs (last I heard). Starting with gen 3 cooling became passive cooling. No longer need power to cool reactors. That would have saved Fukushima.

Simple: The elites need the power for AI. Now all of you sheep get in line.

Eggs in one basket is the question to be asked. Several smaller units is better than ONE BIG ONE. Some failures take months and months to repair. A loss of a Gigawatt is a lot! We know here in the Sacramento area about that. Rancho Seco which is a sister reactor to TMI!

I got a great way to go green. Turn off the internet. Save a TON of power. No more fleets of delivery trucks, no more crypto farms... etc. etc. etc.
