I live in Oceanside and Surf since the early 80's. Two things everyone should know 1. Dont fight a rip current let it do its thing then swim parallel about 20 or 30 yards or so then swim in, and # 2 is dont swim at night in open water!

I know teenagers think they’re invincible, I did at that age … but DO NOT go swimming in bodies of water at night!!! It’s so dangerous for numerous reasons!!! This young kid is not coming home, sadly. 😔

We were there yesterday. Noticed many teens in groups . They were all very happy, getting the night started. I pray they find that teen. 🙏

I was there last night when it happened. Very sad. Don't go swimming at night, people!

Tragic. Saw the Coast Guard chopper this morning wondering what had happened. People don’t realize how easily the invisible current can take you out and how virtually impossible it is to get back in if you’re not an experienced ocean swimmer. You’ve got about 5 minutes tops before your head goes under from fatigue. Rule of thumb: if you don’t have fins or a board, don’t go out past your hips. Believe me, I live here and have been surfing all my life (40). This happens ALL THE TIME. Most just get immediately rescued by lifeguards so you don’t hear about it. If you don’t believe me, come hang out on the sand for a few hours and you’ll inevitably see a lifeguard running into the water.

We all did stupid things in our teenage years, calling off a search for Tax payer reasons is plain dumb

Hope the odds are ih his favor and he is found safe. Oceans are treacherous at night.

I bet he got pulled out into a riptide and even a strong swimmer don’t always make it back safely to shore that is so unfortunate.

If he is still unaccounted for, let us know who it is maybe the public can help

I feel for his mom. Sad but that teen is gone- choices have consequences. Swimming in the ocean at night is a poor choice. RIP.

The waves, gust, winds, current are really bad this week. I was out there Sunday night and thought I wasn't going to make it back alive and I was on a kayak!
