A Consumer Reports survey shows patients are seldom told by doctors about the dangers of radiation-based scans, particularly CT scans. But the tests are powerful enough to change the makeup of human tissue - and sometimes can be avoided.

Excellent video - CT scans are much more dangerous than most people realize. Always insist on an MRI vs a CT scan because they do not use radiation. Better yet, only get either scan if it's absolutely necessary. Nationally the US scans it's patients much more often then any other country. The primary reason, it's a hugely profitable industry in the US, unlike in other developed countries where it's a cost.

Should we stop getting the every 5 years dental panoramic CT scans?

It'd have been nice to know about this before. I've had a ct before 5, had multiple ct scans of my brain and upper torso, and have had dozens of x-rays over my life.

Why are doctors not warning the public about the risks. My ct scan microwaved my insides and made me brutally sick. I had no idea. Corrupt as hell and very unethical

15k deaths per year is 0.018% (much less than 1%). The increased risk of cancer in children by 35% means the total risk is still less than 0.1%. Essentially, you have the same risk of dying from a car accident on your way to the CT scan, as you have from getting cancer from the CT scan. But then you have to drive home,

I have had solo many CT scans in my life due to injuries and a shunt that this is truly scary but I suppose everything is out to kill you these days. At least the shunt has kept me alive long enough to worry about getting cancer. So it balances out a bit in the end.

I had a second lot of Bone and CT scans for a back injury which has a very long story and now believe they have done deliberately done to cause me more ill-health? RE: 28/9/19 I was really ill after Bone/CT scans when forced on to table with jewelry and underwire bra on/refused to be allowed to be taken off telling me it’s not that type of scan while he taped my down my head forcibly done with thick tape plus my hands and legs placed in slings to not being able to move. He did not care how much pain I was in and when he came back he ripped the tape off my head also pulling slings off as if he had the right to treat me this way??

Then as I walking out had immediate blurred vision and on the way, home I was in and out of consciousness and vomiting? The driver had to carry me inside?? The next day I felt badly sunburned although not been in the sun for months and my lips blistered day after. My eye lids where stuck to my eyeballs?? So ill went to doctors however, all was dismissed even through my Urine test showed white blood cell count 56?? Rang the scanning place lady laughed at me telling me she never heard of anyone having a reaction(since learned this is not true)

Even after constant natural health measures iodine/activated charcoal gyco nutrients, juicing I know I’m still declining. I no longer trust most in the medical profession or even solicitors involved in my case. Also wish to state I am a very outspoken ex vaxxer (after nearly losing my precious baby) and believe this has impacted on medical care/doctors tolerating me regardless of the fact I have been working much of my life since young and paid my taxes like everyone else?? First do no harm?? Yeah right??

The scans do not contribute to a statistically significant increase in the risk of cancer in patients, that is why doctors do not tell their patients about the supposed danger of these scans.

Developing cells ARE more vulnerable to radiation.

I wonder if I’m being a hypochondriac but I seriously am so mad at myself for being so stupid. I broke my pinky finger, the base of my proximal phalanx about a year and a half ago, and unfortunately it healed with a malunion, I should’ve just let it go, but I’m a guitar player and I was considering doing osteotomy for it. I went to several different surgeons and got probably maybe 7 to 8 different x-rays over the course of the year, I also got a CT scan recently on my hand as well, I have been reading a lot about how I can damage the DNA, I can’t really explain it, but before my hand felt stupid and now it feels retarded. I feel like my hand is so weak, I just tried playing the guitar and maybe it’s partly muscle memory but I feel like I basically nuked my hand and destroyed it. My hand CT was a high 4.18 mGy and 101 DLP. I also got a MRI to even though they said that’s non ionizing. But I’m sure there is still risk. Which is according to research about a year and a half background radiation. The problem is they don’t tell crap about that as you’re going into appointment. Wish they did. Cause I read it can damage your dna and it’s not like after a year and a half it’s back to good. It stays with you forever. This is the most covered up conspiracy of our generation. Withholding the risks of radiation ☢️ in our lives.

In most cases, the advantages of imaging outweigh the small inherent risks, however it's always good for patients to ask questions and be aware of their situation.

I had to do 2 chest x-rays within short time just because for a deskjob.. a health check.. no signs or risks to do it .., i regret now doing it
