A tutorial from GRF Golf Head Coach Marcus on why the conventional method to starting the backswing with a takeaway might not be such a good idea. Then as always a couple golf drills and exercises for you guys to explore your own means of initiating the golf swing.

Decades of playing golf, some golf lessons, the occasional good round. Older now, have struggled with weight shift and getting my hips working. Watch 2 of your vids and BAM, I get it. Subscribed and grateful for your content. Cheers mate from what used to be the great white and free north.

I always feel like a statue in my takeway. I can't wait to give your approach a try. It makes so much more sense to me. But what a cliffhanger of an ending! Please let there be a part two. 🙏

I started these drills 5 days ago and it is amazing how consistent my ball contact has been with the incorporation of the frontal plane rotation.

Another wonderful explanation of the golf swing and how important the take away is, and it is NOT a static takeaway, but a very dynamic takeaway. using the board and the 1-2-3 works very well. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.

I've watched quite a lot of your videos in the last few months and it had been a great help.
I've started playing golf in May 2023, have watch a lot of YT vids on golf instruction, found Dr. Kwon, his approach resonated with me, your channel is Kwon-theory in golf practice.
I'm really starting to get the swing.
My golf-pro is also into Kwon and your stuff.

Watching your videos has made me aware of how to play a draw or a fade.

thanks.

As always Marcus, a brilliant explanation and demonstration conveyed with a simple explanation and excellent drills. I'm looking forward to the follow up on the downswing 🙂

@Marcus, so there's no flexion, extension on 2, just frontal page. I had thought that the wrecking ball work we did in the lesson was to prime this need to move side to side, as the rotation and extension come into play. Did I miss something?

I am a good putter, but after watching this video, I tried putting using just the 'frontal plane, ' and wow... My putts are even better than before. I actually remembered something Bryson said, and it all clicked once I putted like that. When I used my old putting style, it still went dead straight, but the way I was doing it was by using the 'transverse plane, ' as you say. Using the frontal plane is a game changer. I recognize the feeling somewhat, but now having a name for it and fully understanding what it is has made all the difference. Putts are now insanely accurate. Its like cheating really. There is no way to miss if your line is right and pace. Literally no way. Its not possible.

Huh, I've struggled so long trying to find a happy medium between wrecking ball and slingshot. Arms almost always end up too high. Never occurred to me to do one (wrecking ball), then the other.

As an Ex Tennis coach/pro i fully understand the weight transfer and the "Whip" action but i seem to struggle with distance, same old same old eh? lol, should i take the clubhead back closed as some pros teach or open as many pros seem to do, ie Justin thomas" prep movement, regards /fraser, love the vlogs

The hips do not drop or tilt as we walk due to glutinous medium. We do drop in hip height due to stride length. The longer the stride the more we drop. That is heel contact and heel off. In midstance we are at maximum height on one limb with verticality. The foot goes from pronation to supination and the limb in closed kinetic chain does Internal and external.

Hi Marcus, do you have the same feeling with a pitch for short distance shots near the green?

95% of golfers are hackers because of “straight jacket” golf instructors who basically wrap us up in a straight jacket and twist us into pretzels and say now you should be able to swing freely and hit like tiger.
We dont know how to use the tool so we end up being absolutely plagued by chunks on the course.
Nobody has to teach us to use a hammer and after 1 day we all can hit the nail in the middle of the head.
If we knew how to use the tool we could add all the power we wanted.

Would it be fair to conclude from this that chipping is 100% frontal plane?

the issue i have (and I would think a vast amount of poor golfers) is that we have all tried shifting like that but when you make a backswing and then lateral swing through then the momentum of the club combined with the ground forces from lead side will cause a reaction to that force. That reaction will be to stand up through the shot and early extend. Now im sure that there is a bit of info that GRF golf knows that will prevent this. However on the face of this video im gonna stand up through the swing. I suspect there is vital swing intent that prevents this. Sadly i do not know it. But 100% thats standing up through the hit and a lowest handicap potential of say 15 in isolation. As i said GRF will have the answers but thats the issue i have with this video.

Used to think these mad guys were a bit OTT a seesaw, squidgy foot things etc etc but now im a believer!
but unfortunately ive wasted 2-3 years coming to my Eureka moment which i immediately realised was what the Zengrf guys were banging on about!
I used to turn like an astronaut or water polo player ie all upper body effort, i could still break 80 reg as i hit it stupidly straight but now ive moved to another level i expect to break 70!
Now it just feels like i screw my right side into the ground then my left side into then up
