Oscar is such a good npc. He has a short but impactful role. Imo he sets the tone for the game so beautifully.

I always assumed Oscar was on the other side of the wall the ball rolls through and got smoked by the impact of the giant metal ball.

Cut content from the game had him surviving and being a reccuring summon/npc like Solaire throughout the game. The idea was that he would be a reflection of and foil to the player. Depending on which serpent and side you chose, he would have allied with the other until eventually you would have to fight him.

I definitely like the version we got, even if it meant less Oscar, but its cool to imagine alternative worlds.

If you go back to the asylum, you can find him, but he turns hollow, and you have to kill him. He drops his shield

Its even cooler because if you look up to the direction the sunlight is coming from theres a hole in the roof, that lines up with about where he fell in from. It can be inferred that since he was already on the roof he moved forward, attempted to fight the Asylum Demon, then got thrown through the walls and crashed into that spot we find him in

When I started to go on that staircase and hearing the sound of his dying (that sound you hear when you kill an enemy)got me emotional knowing these things and I didn't turn back to see his place empty

I’ve heard that the original intention was for him to survive and be met throughout our journey, and side with the opposite serpent from the chosen undead, and serve as a mirror image to the player.
