Good you do not sand the trunk and paint it... so many times people ruin old furniture. What you do is exactly what I do with the trunks i buy and sell. Some i just clean and repair if needed, hunderds of years of patina is a shame to destroy. I think your trunk is early 1900 do when i look at the screws and handles. Most of my trunks are from 1700 en 1800's and they have hand forged nails, handles and hinges. In Europe a 100 years old is second hand/ vintage in the U.S it is ancient😂
