Larry Carlton's solo on "Kid Charlemagne" is a clinic on how to deal with changes. The song is what I call a graduated blues as most of Steely Dan's tunes tend to be. Awesome!!

Top 10 solo of all time! Caught my attention when I was a total single-mined metal head. Larry Carlton is a beast!

I considered myself a "good" guitarist all the way through my 20's and early 30's... better than most. I then worked with a musical director for a few amazing and memorable years. He introduced me to an entirely different approach to music. His favourites were steely Dan, (particularly D.F's composition) and a whole raft of musicians i hadn't been aware of. It was an amazing and crushing feeling at the time. I was light-years behind and below the talent. But introduced to a level of music and musicians that i adore and aspire to. To this day i still warm up before any gig with the many Handel warm ups he gave me. We're all of us standing in the shoulders of giants.

Larry is the greatest guitarist most people don't know by name

Great song and amazing guitar solo. One of my favorite songs to ear when I'm driving.

I agree with Rick Beato — my favorite guitar solo of all time.

This was a great, down-to-earth and very personable and inspiring video. Although this is the first video I'm seeing on your channel, this conversational style really suits you well. It feels like a good friend sitting in your living room helping you to get motivated. Your inclusion of the outtakes at the end showed lots of humility. I think you should do more videos like this. Thank you for all of the great information!

Your work on Kid Charlemagne is fabulous.. I really enjoyed it, and whilst I'd already learned the main solo, the insights into all the rest, personnel and so on are so great. I'd urge anyone who wants to learn some Steely Dan to check it out! 🎶🌟👍

Sweet Larry Carlton. He's made a big impact on some guitars just like Steve Luther . Does steely Dan album sometimes I find them to be boring put the musicians excellent.

One of my favourite bands I’m definitely a child of the 1970, s just turned 58. And yes I’ve done ACID.

I love Rick. I’m a reasonably skilled guitarist and I’d have to watch this about 20 times to get it. His theory stuff is on another level. Hard to believe his band opened for Megadeth. And I love Megadeth too ;)

It seems like in the right context any note can fit with any chord if you’re a musical genius like these guys

Such a key track for urgency.
And the LA dealing culture.
Killer on all counts.
Love ya, Rick.
