The funny part is that, I'm pretty sure Sony ensured to Enforce that statement of Crossplay being Impossible because around the same time, Minecraft Pocket Edition transitioned into just Minecraft with v1.2 The Better Together Update, which let everyone EXCEPT for PlayStation play together no matter the platform.
Thankfully this is all changed.

Say what you want about the game, but they gave gamers the biggest win in history. Every single one of us dreamed about cross platform compatibility since onlines inception

I also think it's cool how they completely revolutionized the monetization in gaming (not really the best way, but yes). The battle pass system is actually genius compared to the constant lootboxes found in every game at the time.

You have your players jump on your FTP game (so easy to play), then they want to look nice and enjoy progression. They drop "only" ten dollars for a bunch of skins that come with challenges and grind.

Your paying players now spend hundreds of hours maxing out their battle pass, seeing more skins, buying more of them, and showing and telling others about it. Having someone spend money for the first time is a big deal since they're much more likely to spend more and they're also super prevalent in terms of gift cards and all.
