This week I explain why it still might be possible to attract eastern bluebirds to your back yard in winter and offer seven tips for how you can provide quality winter habitat for these bright, beautiful birds! I also share footage of them enjoying several types of supplemental food from a variety of bird feeders. I hope you enjoy their antics as much as I do, and you get bonus points if you notice the goofy downy woodpecker...

Use mealworms in a feeder or platform board. If you have bluebirds around You will get them. In northern Massachusetts I was surprised to see them here in Winter. Insectivores, I gave them mealworms daily and provided water... great and gentle birds. Avoid those vicious bully starlings; those vermin don't belong anywhere in the US

Thank you for this! We finally have had a successful nesting and brood and fledged babies this year! For your insects? I can recommend spreading some diatomaceous earth around your yard to eliminate ticks and over abundance of ants and hard bodied insects! It’s safe for “us” pets and birds and? Even if the birds ingested one of the insects that was exposed to it? It’s not harmful. It actually also works as a safe anti-parasitic for us, cats and dogs if sprinkled on their food. My friend has used it for years now!
