July of 64, I was 13 years old and I remember this song like it was yesterday. These were dark days for me being a victim in a dysfunctional family. It's all good. I'm 71 and have been happily married to my bride of 48 years who gave me two beautiful daughters who are successful in life!

I'm forever grateful that the Blues swept over Britain like a sonic tsunami. So many artists caught that soul fever -- Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Alexis Korner, John Mayall, Peter Green, Jimmy Page, Rory Gallagher, Van Morrison, et al. Yardbirds were bruisin' -- then as now.

One of my favourite all-time LPs Five Live Yardbirds. Smokestack Lightening. I was then switched onto Rhythm and Blues. Then John Mayall and The Blues breakers etc etc
Saw Yardbirds at The Dungeon Club, Nottingham Feb 1965, I was 16. I stood right in front of Eric Clapton, I was in heaven!

A 19 year old Eric Clapton on lead guitar. Amazing guitar playing and Eric Clapton would only get better and better, as time went on. Cheers!

Amazing for a singer and harmonica player. Relf, who died in 1976, had suffered from emphysema and had only one lung.

Smokestack Lightning was originally recorded by Howlin' Wolf in 1956- he said the song was inspired by watching trains (steam engines in his days) and seeing sparks fly out their smoketacks.

This Band Gave Birth to Some of Rock n Rolls Greatest with Page, Beck and Clapton and The Music that Evolved from The Yardbirds DNA but it was KEITH RELF who was FN PHENOMENAL as a VOCALIST & WRITER thats ALWAYS OVERLOOKED in RETROSPECT but HE WAS WHAT PUT THE YARDBIRDS on the MAP at the TIME and WHAT DREW theses FUTURE GUITAR LEGENDS and WHY they GOT NOTICED !! THE YARDBIRDS CONTRIBUTED MORE to ROCK n ROLL than the BEATLES when it COMES DOWN to the FACTS, I LOVE them BOTH and I ONLY MENTION because SO MANY YOUNGER GENERATION KIDS have NEVER HEARD of the YARDBIRDS but THEY HAVE BEEN CONDITIONED to LOVE the BEATLES !!
