When it was first announced that Ferrari was building an SUV, many were dismayed. After all, how could a high-riding four-door properly represent the brand?

Well, no matter what the naysayers said, Ferrari have delivered anyway. This is the Purosangue, a V12 beast that Ferrari claims - despite its appearance - is no SUV.

So, is it a positive start for a new era of Ferrari, or is it something of a brand travesty? Join Matt Prior as he finds out.

Matt, you deserve your own show, for me you are the perfect mix in techtalk and spirited driving, I also always agree with your picks, you seem to understand the Italian brands a bit better and judge them on their merits in stead of old tunes of gossip and envy.

This guy has been here for ages. I remember watching autocar as a teenager with Jamie corstophine and Steve sutcliffe.

I've watch at least 7 of the "big name" reviewers review on this work of art and your review is by faaaar the best. Thank you for all the details like what you provided for the paddles. Appreciative.

Stunning, absolutely stunning. Excellent review but what else would you expect from Matt. Would appreciate a bit more footage from driver's viewpoint to see how high/low it feels, maybe next time.

Very impressive review and car. The snow stage at the end was excellent, and I see Ferrari had no shortages of "Brake" signs - obviously for less skillful journalists! The Roma definitely paved the way for the Purosangue's looks, and although querky because of the Roma we're all thinking it's a nice looking car. And the interior couldn't be anything but Ferrari. Another successful design inside and out, and technically too.

They've definitely got a hit on their hands, and given that they also have two year's worth of sales already excellent that they still let people review the car. By comparison, Aston with the Valkyrie have just allowed a few to review it over a year and a quarter since deliveries were alleged to have started. Even then, in a tightly controlled track setting which is strange as it's supposed to be a road car...

Whatever Ferrari say... PUROSANGUE is an SUV. On it's own way for sure, but it is. Above all (V12, technology, design, etc) the reason why it has not really any competitors is it's exorbital price. One thing is sure trough it all... Flavio Manzoni nailed it once again. Really hope sincerly Ferrari are paying that guy at his fair value.

This was a stellar review of a stellar vehicle. Properly done Matt. Nerdy bits mixed with the raw excitement of throttle blips and drifts. Loved it!

YES he's back, Matt is back.

Well done Autocar at last.
But i have to ask why on earth when you have the best in the business have you been using subpar journalists for high end videos recently ?

Magnificent review! Absolutely loved it! I've seen quite a few reviews of this car but only two genuinely stood out to me: Henry Catchpole's review on Hagerty and this one. Love the thorough technical details mixed with the real world usability questions, but I wish you talked a bit more about the engine, snice that's the highlight of the car - the only modern SUV with a naturally aspirated V12. However, the last snow rally stage bit made up for it!

The one thing I'd like to point out, that Henry did mention in his video, is that the Purosangue is not the first 4 door Ferrari. The first was the Pinin concept and then the first road car was 456 Venice.

Great post, probably the best one I've seen so far. But the car... fantastic car, amazing achievement etc, but all that tech.... you wouldn't want to own one without a warranty. Imagine the cost when it goes wrong (which it will). Once out of warranty, what will the depreciation be like?!

Great video - Definitely not an SUV - its more sports cross, like a certain German EV rival 😂
Call it a FAV Ferrari Activity Vehicle 😀
