In this episode, I sit down with the very popular and influential Kristi Burke. We delve into the critical need to evaluate the societal impacts of religious doctrines, balancing respect for personal beliefs with the importance of addressing potential harms. Our discussion covers the challenges of navigating family dynamics, the roles and responsibilities of vocal atheists, and the influences that drive individuals away from organized religion. We also explore how to maintain healthy communications about faith and the future of atheism and secular advocacy. We share a goal of deconstructing the complexities of belief and skepticism in our quest to foster a more reasoned, consistent, nuanced, and less harmful approach to these issues.

22:40 They attack her more because she's so stinking effective. Because she's a woman who is nice, kind, a wonderful person, smart, well-spoken, she's going to have a target from these misogynistic male apologists, they just can't help themselves.

They gaslight her, misrepresent her, say things like, "self-identified Christian, " and basically accuse her of not knowing the Bible, and blah, blah, blah...

It's gross, really.

You two have exploded in the deconstruction scene because you communicate so clearly and naturally. I don't think that people appreciate how hard that is.

As a Christian I saw Christy's video on the ark. It made me double down on my faith. I was so angry and stuff. Then when I was looking for a Bible study guide I came across your secular Bible study. I figured I could watch it with a grain of salt and learn and it slowly, with the help of one of my friends deconverted me. I then went back and watch Christy's videos and it really helped me understand better. It also showed me how much one will excuse and burry their head in the sand.

Don't EVER stop! You and Brandon are literally the two people that helped me take a step back and see things so clearly! I feel so much more free and at peace than I EVER did when I was a Christian! Thank you both for all you do. ❤️

Part of the problem with Christianity is that you're taught that the outside world is against you, so don't listen to anything that's going to question your faith or brings doubt.

You two are the most effective voices, by shattering the religious stereotypes of “atheists”. Very thoughtful! Very considerate! Very honest! Very empathetic! I absolutely love you two❤

I love her version of Kristi-anity, so down to earth, and loaded with practical wisdom for those who dare to question the insanity of the belief system that's been imposed upon us.

You and Kristi are probably my favorites in the atheist commentary space. You’re both just so authentic and kind and do not beat around the bush.

I really started to dig into scripture at age 30. I had always read the Bible but never actually studied it. My mother always advised me to spend time with Jesus by reading the Bible. When I finally came out as agnostic/athiest to her and used the Bible as a reference, she said, "Faith is stronger than scripture, and you're spending too much time studying the Bible."
Also, when I was a hardcore Christian, I would post Bible verses on Facebook with my own commentary/interpretation and get a million 'Amen.' When I started posting my questions and opinions of the Bible, I was told to shut up, I needed Jesus, and I was being disrespectful to them and their God! All by the same people who loved my previous posts.
What I've learned is that it wasn't because I had deconstructed my faith but only that I didn't share in the faith with them anymore!
Another thing I've learned is that the one thing that is more dangerous to the mind than having an imaginary friend is having an imaginary enemy!

I totally get why Kristi gets attacked more bc as a woman who is bold and outspoken on this issue I've gotten death threats from online keyboard Christianity warriors 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ christians will attack a woman more than they will a man

I was really angry about being lied to and the time I felt wasted, embarrassed for realizing my own cognitive dissonance and lack of critical thinking... I'm very vocal about my opinions, even when I was wrong. I have mellowed, but watch the claws lol

The old saying stands true that the closer you get to the target the more flack you encounter. Your target is "the Truth". Keep hitting your critics with truth bombs. Greatly appreciate you two working together.

As someone who has never been religious but is trying to understand religious people and our current moment in history, I think both of you are priceless. Thank you for doing what you do.

i find it ironic to hear a theist call an atheist angry and hateful when it's the theist who seems to relish the fact that all us atheists are gonna end up in eternal hellfire !

I love Kristi Burke and her delivery of non-belief and deconstruction etc. So true, both of you are the “cool chill deliverer’s” of such a sensitive and hard to openly express subject matter.

I admire you Kristi. I have a hard time imagining what it would be like to lose relationships with close family members.
