i did a chain the other day a 520 that was like that. the pin/roller were one unit. not a pen going through the center roller. so when i got the pin ground off after failed attempts at knocking it through, i no longer had the link i was trying to connect with since the roller and pin were one piece.

I didn't watch all 8 minutes, but why can't you just use a $20 chain breaker that presses the links apart?

Thanks for that, but the notion that chains can only be shortened (or lengthened) two links at a time is not real-world practical. It can't be. Two links is a lot of difference, and cannot possibly get shorter chains to the correct length. So I know dang well there's a way to add or subtract just one link, there has to be, and I guess it's some top secret trade secret. Nobody seems to know how, or be willing to disclose that.
