Maddie (Alexa Barajas, YELLOWJACKETS, THE FLASH) is in trouble. She’s been in an accident, and her politician mother can’t have her careless daughter destroying the reputation she’s built, so she sends Maddie to a safe house — a state-of-the-art domicile boasting a fully operational AI system called ROMI. Hertig (Pavel Kríz, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL), the property manager and owner, gives Maddie a tour of her new digs, complete with every convenience brought to her by ROMI. He’s a bit strange, and she’s wary of him, but there’s also the awkwardly charming A.I. tech Barkley (Juan Reidinger, CLAWS, RICEBOY SLEEPS), whose genius built the artificial assistant from the ground up. Despite the occasional company, Maddie is scared she’ll be arrested and feels quite alone… and there’s something not quite right with ROMI. What lies ahead becomes an unsettling mystery for her, and surviving this lockdown instead of going to jail becomes her top priority.

Robert Cuffley (CHOKESLAM, BRIGHT HILL ROAD) reunites with acclaimed writer and producer Susie Maloney (BRIGHT HILL ROAD), described as “Canada’s Stephen King,” to expand their 2019 short of the same name to a feature-length film. Cuffley and Maloney embraced the rise of A.I. and its insidious implications that have been explored over the years with movies like DEMON SEED (1977) and the TV series BLACK MIRROR. In ROMI, we revisit the questions society faces with unexpected chilling elements and loads of suspense. This monster-tech movie raises questions of morality and deep secrets that will eventually surface despite monumental efforts to conceal the truth. Produced by Colin Sheldon, with great performances by genre faves Barajas, Reidinger, and Kríz, and Jocelyn Chugg as the voice of ROMI, this crowd-pleasing high-tech horror is one property you won’t write off!

Maddie (Alexa Barajas, YELLOWJACKETS, THE FLASH) est dans le pétrin. Elle vient d'être impliquée dans un accident, et sa mère politicienne n'aime pas du tout l'idée qu'une frasque de son enfant puisse réduire à néant la bonne réputation qu'elle s'est bâtie. C'est pourquoi maman envoie sa fille dans un domicile hautement sécurisé, géré par une intelligence artificielle à la fine pointe de la technologie : ROMI. Le responsable des lieux, Hertig (Pavel Kríz, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL), fait faire à Maddie le tour de la maison et lui explique les nombreux avantages de ROMI. Certes, Hertig est un peu bizarre, et Maddie n'a guère confiance en lui, mais, heureusement, il y a aussi Barkley (Juan Reidinger, CLAWS, RICEBOY SLEEPS), le charmant technicien ayant élaboré le système d'intelligence artificielle de A à Z. Maddie a donc parfois un peu de compagnie, mais elle est seule la plupart du temps, se sent isolée, et redoute d'être retrouvée par la police. En outre, quelque chose cloche avec ROMI. Ce qui s'ensuit est un mystère inquiétant, et, plutôt que d'aller en prison, Maddie devra survivre à un confinement forcé.

L'auteure et productrice Susie Maloney (BRIGHT HILL ROAD), décrite comme étant « la Stephen King canadienne », et Robert Cuffley (CHOKESLAM, BRIGHT HILL ROAD) réalisèrent ensemble un court-métrage intitulé ROMI en 2019. Les voici réunis pour nous offrir une version longue de l'œuvre. L'avènement de l'intelligence artificielle a été exploré depuis des années à travers des films tels que DEMON SEED (1977) et des séries comme BLACK MIRROR, mais Cuffley et Maloney posent néanmoins d'importantes questions morales auxquelles notre société devra répondre tôt ou tard. ROMI est une histoire de monstre, et ce monstre, c'est la technologie, ses implications insidieuses, et ses secrets qui ne peuvent qu'éclater au grand jour en dépit des efforts monumentaux qui sont faits pour les dissimuler. Produit par Colin Sheldon, avec de splendides performances de Barajas, Reidinger, Kríz, et Jocelyn Chugg (qui prête sa voix au système informatique), ROMI est un parfait divertissement d'horreur high-tech bourré de suspense et d'éléments à vous glacer le sang dans les veines.
