Unless you've been living under a rock you've heard about the lack of affordability in the US Real Estate Market. There are only four affordable cities in the current housing market according to Goldman Sachs Housing Affordability Indices. What does affordable mean? For Goldman to consider a major city affordable, the average new monthly mortgage payment must be less than 25% of the average salary, as you can see from this graph affordability has dropped precipitously in the last 5 years with only St Louis Detroit, Chicago, and Baltimore still being considered affordable.
