For anyone who is interested, Australia invented this style of car back in 1948 and we called it a UTE, short for utility . Its was based on our 4 door sedans, a farmer that had a 4 door family sedan cut the back off to put hay in the back to feed his sheep and cattle as he drove around his pattocks .

The El Camino has always been one of my favorites. I had an opportunity to buy one once but the deal fell through when the bank refused the loan and my finances were rather limited otherwise. Haven't found one since, but if I do I'll probably jump on it now that I am more financially secure.

I’m pretty sure Scotty injured his arm when waving his arms describing some endless money pit.

Scotty As a driveway mechanic but former owner of a car dealership I commend your general knowledge. A V8 is a reciprocating engine. A GM ball and screw steering system is called a recirculating ball steering box. I just wanted to correct that minor error. Also there was a 3 year gap from 61-63 when Chev stopped making the El Caminos. We had an El Camino like that one and it could tow a huge trailer with the old 350. They are really handy vehicles. Thanks Scotty!

Love the Chevy "bow tie" exhaust tips. Drop an LS1 engine in it

I drove an El Camino for work in Southern California in 1975-1977. Hinshaw’s Department store Arcadia, Ca.
Other vehicles run on propane. It was a little unsettling in the El Camino having the tank behind your head but boy does propane make a vehicle run great. Don’t know why it never became a thing. They had a maintenance man who knew how to do the conversion to propane. He has passed but I am still friends with his wife even though we are now 3000 miles apart. I loved driving that thing.
