"Pursuing the light too hard is a form of hiding" - this is just my take on it, but as someone who is writing a book on mourning and healing, I found this to be a warning against toxic positivity and being insincere about our feelings. Allowing ourselves to be honest about our sadness is really important to being authentic as humans. We shouldn't try to hide our sadness by covering it up with too much inauthentic positivity. Thus - pursuing the light too hard is a form of hiding (from ourselves) or hiding ourselves. That's just my take on it.

"To insist on absolute justice at all times, it blocks connection" and "to find our resonance where we DO connect" - this made me think that if we insist in perfection in each other, we kill or relationships and connections. This is especially true in our world that is so highly charged politically. So instead of only connecting with people we are in perfect alignment with, she is calling to make space for connecting within each other within our difference and find the places where we do resonate.

It is kind of like the role that fungus plays in forests connecting all the trees of different species together underground via their roots. These trees are competing with each other, but they still find a way to connect in a way that is mutually supportive. Super cool lyrics.

At this point I am conviced that Björk is a medium. She always transmist intemporal messages that are essential for the growth of humanity.
I think "to connect" as three dimensions here :
1) connecting to the Earth, reconnecting to the present, to your own body, being grounded. As we're living really hard times with illness, war, violence, discrimination.
2) connecting to each other, to reconnect as a community and cultivate empathy and love. To support one another.
3) connect to our superior self. That higher and powerful being that protects and guides us. The embodiment of light and love.
This song to me is kind of saying we need to alignment in ourselves to evolve as human beings, as it will help us to live in these times and to find peace and all of this noise and violence surrounding us

“To insist on absolute justice at all times, it blocks connection” - She’s talking about always wanting things to be 100% equal and fair in a relationship, I give to you = you give to me, I forgive you = you have to forgive me, you did something wrong = you have to pay for it… all these expectations of how a relationship has to be to work actually damages the relationship because you’re holding to tight on this fixed idea of how a relationship should be instead of focusing on the uniqueness of the relationship, the uniqueness of the other person, understanding that this is a brand new relationship that deserves to be experienced without preconceptions and judgment. Avoid the “one-size-fits-all” mentality and try not to put labels on the relationship and the other person. Try not to focus on the differences or the things that remind you of past failed relationships because those are just excuses to not connect! Hope is a muscle that needs to be exercised, because although you should never idealize the other person or have unrealistic expectations for the relationship, you should always hope for the best, enter the relationship with an open heart willing to meet and connect with an unique individual, a relationship that will never be duplicated, the unclassified other (atopos).

Atopy (Greek ατοπία, atopía; Socrates has often been called "átopos") is a concept describing the ineffability of things or emotions that are seldom experienced, that are outstanding and that are original in the strict sense. It is a certain quality (of experience) that can be observed within oneself or within others, differing from the ideal quality that is conceptualized, not experienced

When i first heard this track, i was kinda unsure about it but now that I've heard it some more, i can't get it out of my head. I randomly find myself singing this throughout the day. That bass clarinet part is unexpectedly catchy 😭

I love how it feels like youre falling into insanity, which is my interpretation of the song, shes almost warning us that things cant be perfect and that we canr expect perfection. Almost like the spiral into insanity of over perfectionism

I Love that you made a reaction video for this !!!! It’s a total bonus to getting new Björk music! I’ve been following some content of her recent interviews, and you are spot on with the bass and the reggaeton. She explained that she had been listening to afrobeats from Central and East Africa. To me, I hope she is going full ecology on this album!! Earth Goddess 💚💚💚

Bjork has really embraced atonal chanty and slightly chaotic music for a few albums now. I love the experimental nature - as well as the bass clarinet textures throughout - but the one slight disappointment is that her vocal chants have become quite samey from album to album, often confined to three notes and very typical inverval jumps (as you pointed out early on in the video). It's not that I want her necessarily to re-embrace vocal melody - I'd just like to hear some different intervals and notes once in a while.

It is almost forbidden to criticize Bjork, someone from iceland who make experimental pop but this single and video feels a bit forced to me, I miss connection.
