I’m a South African living in California and I agree, definitely miss events with family and friends!

Best idea for straightening hair is a good quality air brush and maybe a Johnsons detangler. About the aircon, the best idea would be to get great insulation in the house, not just in the roof but in the walls and floors as well.

You have nailed ALL of the obnoxiously FUN things about the USA! These are the things that I think we will miss if we ever make our dream of living in Europe come true.

About Christmas, if you want, I would love to invite you two to celebrate Christmas with us! Or just befriend a German family here in South Africa, we Germans really do Christmas much better than anyone here in South Africa. Yes, there are Germans that are born South Africans😜🎅🏻🤶🏻🌲

Americans are definitely spoiled. I lived in Wellington NZ for five years and other expat Americans could not believe I didn't have an electric blanket. There is no central heating in NZ, one of the coldest countries on earth. One flued heater for the whole house.

You need to expose yourself to different provinces and people. Most that you miss is definitely practiced in South Africa. Ofcos it may not be the same as in the U.S but it sounds like the group or area you are in is holding you back to the exposure of some parts or lifestyle of South Africans.

Hey! Am I the first to.comment?

May I ask:

1) where in SA do you stay? Im.getting the feeling that you must be in a small town. If you have fibre connection, you could be getting speeds of 100 mps or more. R u in a small town?

2) If you were living in a bigger city, you would have access to a lot more. Woolworths, Makro and all the other variety to be found in Joburg, Cape Town, Pretoria, Durban etc

3) How is it that you dont have access to Amazon? My late dad always ordered from them. He grew up and never left South Africa. I prefer to use Takealot to avoid the shipping costs. There is also something called Wantitall.

I think that what you need to be doing is networking with South Africans who are connected and a bit more of the organised go-getters, type A personality, First-world types. Lol! I am not joking, and am saying this synpathetically and in all earnest. If you are in a small town, I would suggest setting aside time every month or every two months to go SHOPPING earnestly in the bigger cities. More advice: connect with expats who have been here for much longer, just to understand their experiences. They may have very useful hints and advice for you. I will also try to find sites on where to find everything of convenience in SA as a garuntee. I think there is variability in accessibility and resources, depending on where you stay.
