I spent the summer of 1972 in Arctic Alaska on a geological field crew. In June everything was fine, but in July and later, the mosquitoes were horrendous. Millions upon millions of them. There was a constant "hum" noise 24/7 (no dark nights.) They were in our food and inside our tents. The only thing that kept them at bay was OFF and head nets.
