Thanks a lot, I had been having a hard time learning how to do this in 2.57 from tutorials of older versions!

That's a great idea. I'll start working on a newbie tutorial as soon as I get the time. Thank you so much for your comment!

Thanks for the reply. I'm sure that there has to be a way to get the cork-screw curls. I'll play with the kink settings as well and see if I can get it. I also noticed that there was a 'curls' option, but really it only makes the hair wavy.

Thanks for the tip and I'll let you know how it comes out.

You can do one of two things. You can either select specific polygons to apply the particle system to, or you can create a separate mesh for the hair. I would recommend the second option, because once you apply the particle system, you won't have a solid base, it will become transparent. So what I would do is select your scalp area on the human mesh, and duplicate it so that the mesh sits just on top of your human head. Then apply the particle system to the duplicated mesh only.

To make the hair appear softer, the best thing to do is to adjust the thickness of the strands. Also, adding more segments to the hair will make it much smoother in animation. I hope that helps!

Thanks for the helpful tutorial, and I appreciate you taking your time. I learn nothing from time-lapse.

Hey there. The layout I'm using is the default Blender layout, so you should have it. Double check to make sure you're in object mode, then go all the way over to the particles tab- it might be hidden so expand your window a bit- it should be there. Then add the particle system. Thanks!

No problem! A lot of things are different in this version. Luckily I'm taking a class on it, so it makes it a bit easier for me. I should be making more tutorials soon as well.

great tutorial on hair particles :-). had a question. how do hair particles work with armatures? i came across this challenge after i did a self cgi model. after i added the armature to the model, i moved the model around in pose mode but the hair didn't move with the model mesh. it just stayed stationary

The main option for making the hair curly is the 'Kink' setting under the Children Panel. Adjusting the levels here can give you some manner of curl. I'll do some more research and see if I can't find an easy way to get to those pretty curls.

Thanks, so how would I duplicate the scalp? I'm a beginner, this stuff is all new to me. Trying to create 3D art is very, very complicated for me. I want to get into learning and creating my own 3D art for posters, that's why I try to watch as much tutorials as I can. I had a very tough time trying to create my own 3D human mesh from scratch that's why I import already made meshes from Makehuman. I want to also import already made clothes, furniture, rooms and landscapes. Any suggestions?

Hi there! Sorry for the late response, and sorry again if you've already found your answer. Particle systems such as hair will move in your animation with the help of hair physics- you have to go and adjust a few things in the physics stats of the system, such as gravity, etc. You can also use wind to blow the hair from a certain direction, also found in physics.

Are you trying to save a jpeg of your project in Blender? If so, go to the render panel and select JPEG as the output mode. Also, I was taking the class at my college, georgia state university.

I really appreciate you taking the time to do the video tutorial. One thing that I was curious about was how to make curly hair. I saw some settings in Blender 2.63 for it, but it didn't seem to return the results that I was expecting. Have you or anyone familiar with the system been able to get this to work? I'm thinking of something kind of like Merida in Brave.

Omg, I hadn't used the particle system before and is just so funny how you can style the hair.
