My mom was in school when it happened. The whole class, including her, were watching it live. It was terrifying and just absolutely shocking. Who could have guessed that would have happened. Rest in Peace Challenger crew.

They actually made it out of the explosion alive because the crew cab stayed intact because the actual shuttle didn’t explode it just broke apart when the gas tank exploded. They didn’t actually die until the crew cab fell and hit the water. Still doesn’t change the point. RIP🙏🕊

The shuttle did blew up but not by a malfunction

Before the launch it was very cold and severely affected the o-rings in the right booster and leaked flames onto the hydrogen tank of the external fuel tank and detonated it

I blame the booster for the chaos that was STS 51-L
