The turning point wasn’t even the first 2 murders, it’s the fact that he ran down the last one to finish him, that was truly the jokers first murder

This scene is made better by the fact it wasn’t how it was originally scripted. The original plan was for Arthur to run into the bathroom, hide the gun, wash his makeup off and stare at himself in the mirror like “what have I done?” kind of thing. Todd and Joaquin had been on set for like an hour and agreed it didn’t feel right for Arthur to do that. Hildur had sent Todd this piece of music so he played it for Joaquin and he just began to dance and Todd kept rolling (they’d both established early on that Arthur “had music in him”). It was just him and Todd in the bathroom. With 250 crew members waiting outside.

this scene made me feel his grief, him dancing away his huge mistake and accepting who he is, it was extremely sad and hard to watch. very beautiful scene tbh.

This scene had everyone in the cinema dead silent.

Those low strings, man. Something about them sounds really dark and eerie, but because of the vocals and the slow tempo of the strings, it sounds melodic and combined with the scene of Joker dancing, it’s majestic and almost triumphant. There’s a little bit of a warmth to it, if you know what I mean. And then at 1:24, there’s almost a loud confidence to it, like Arthur is now comfortable with who he is. The song kinda sounds like something straight out of _Max Payne 3_ with a little bit of distortion from something like _The Last of Us_ .

The part with Arthur furiously watching Murray playing his video while smoking his cigarette with the audience laughing at him in the background always sends chills down my spine

It's the swan song of Arthur's dying soul, as the Joker rises from the ashes. A very intimate moment.

This movie was just so beautiful. It’s a masterpiece. It wasn’t for everyone. But it’s truly a work of art.

This imagery in this scene was pure nightmare fuel.

Idk if it’s what the director intended but I like to imagine that Arthur dances in times of distress, it’s his way of forgetting about everything. When he killed the subway people, dancing down the stairs after killing his friend, before killing Murray...

Love everyone's comments on here and absolutely agree, I came out of the cinema feeling like I'd just seen and witnessed something profound and it's very rare in film these days. I was moved deeply and this film surprisingly and deeply resonated with me and is so relatable to I think ALL of us, and also a relevant view of our current society. I can see why the American government is seemingly 'afraid' of this film...this scene was breathtakingly beautiful, and the highlight for the whole film for me, and SPOKE volumes. THAT is genius and Phoenix my god, a legendary performance.
