Overcoming Social Anxiety: Finding Comfort in Your Own Skin
Do you find yourself struggling to be comfortable in your own skin? This is a common experience, yet many people don't talk about it. The saying "uncomfortable in your own skin" points us to the answer: the anxiety exists in the emotional body at the nervous system level. We often try to resolve this discomfort with our analytical mind in social settings, but the nervous system remains unaddressed. Here's a simple solution: when you feel uncomfortable, find a trusted friend or colleague, and share your anxiety with them. Allow yourself to be seen and heard, breathe, and align with the feeling of anxiety. As you do, the anxiety will start to subside, and you can remind yourself that it's okay to be yourself despite the anxiety.
