Rationality Rules & Transgender Drama

This video discusses the drama surrounding popular YouTube atheist, Stephen Woodford of Rationality Rules, and how the Atheist Experience featuring Matt Dillahunty, denounced Stephen for his "Ignorant and transphobic" views. In this video, I share my thoughts about the drama and why I think the Atheist Experience are largely hypocritical in their criticism of Rationality Rules.

Bravo man, standing up for someone you disagree with is rarely seen these days.

I'm an atheist and I agree with you 100% on this. The ACA's shows are all about bringing in opposing ideas and discussing them. Trying to force groupthink like this is so disappointing to see. If they disagree so much with Rationality Rules, they should debate him on it! Not shun him and 'disfellowship' him.

Mocking and insulting Christians non-stop = Fine
Saying males shouldn't be allowed to compete in women sports = Pain and anguish

Huge respect to you for making this video. You may have disagreements on the topic of religion, but that you’re supporting him on this one shows how maturely you navigate your topics. Props!

So if I understand correctly...
They basically did a public, self-flagellating confession of "sin"...and then "disfellowshipped" one of their own...for Crimethink.

"We would love to hear from you"
Unless, of course, you have different views than us. In which case, we will slander, and silence you.

As a member of the LGBTQ community I agree with Stephen. His view has nothing to do with discrimination.

"The ACA is working quickly and diligently to ensure that this kind of mistake does not happen again." Translation: "From now on we will ensure that we prevent wrongthink".

I agree with you and also support Rationality Rules on this topic. Sometimes too much compassion or empathy blinds people. The unfortunate reality is that many people are fragile emotionally and can't handle people disagreeing with them.

I'm an atheist and I agree with you and am sorely disappointed with the ACAs denouncement of RR which to me was nothing lesson character assassination and an ad hominem attack.

I am an atheist and I am 100% supportive of transgender rights but I do not think that anything that Rationality Rules said in his video could be seen as him being transphobic. The specific issue on transgender people competing with biological women in sports is a legitimate concern that most reasonable people (including transgender and non transgender people who support transgender people like RR) also hold. It is very disappointing to see him being treated in such an unfair, reactionary and irrational way.

I am a right leaning atheist and have been for some time. I feel the same, it's as if they leave religion because they question things about what it says, then blindly follow a NEW liberal religion that you're not allowed to question. Whether you're an atheist or theist doesnt make a difference, you should be able to question things openly...

Absolutely agree, I have no idea what the aca was thinking with that post, and this is coming from someone who enjoys their content. It goes against their entire legacy of seeking truth through discussion and critique of ideas, but instead portrays them as whiney brats who cant take a second opinion. Very disappointed indeed.

We can actually agree on this issue. As a biologist, Steven has a solid point. Also we need not care about the loud and more especially, wrong voices. Sometimes the squeaky wheel does not get the grease... Sometimes it gets replaced.

I am a Catholic, been watching ACA for quite some time now. Just because I like listening to the opposite view. Never got offended... until now.
