Sigur Ros's version is the scariest and the most beautiful one.

To me this song has slowly become a "hymn" of Machiavellian power struggles and human cruelty.

Whoever interrupts Sigur Ros in middle of their gigs, chokes to death.

''I will not give my life for Joffrey's murder and I know I'll get no justice here, so I will let the gods decide my fate. I demand a trial by combat.''

The Hound: "FUCK THE KING!"

(also great acting from Jack Gleeson, you portrayed the most hated king brilliantly. You will be missed.)

And so they wrote, and so they wrote,
That D&D of HBO.

And now the fans, weep o’er their show
With no GRRM to hear.

For fans of the show (relax, not really a spoiler), the song is about the destruction of House Reyne of Castamere. The Reynes were a sworn house to the Lannisters, but Tywin's father Tytos was a weak man. So The Reynes became emboldened, with the Lord of that House making that bold proclamation the song opens with (it makes sense when you realize that House Reyne's sigil was a red lion). Tywin then brough the full fury of the Lannisters on House Reyne and wiped them out.

The line "And now the rains weep o'er his halls with not a soul to hear" is also a clever play on words, as it can also refer to the ghosts of the Reynes themselves.

Tywin liked to send bards to play this song whenever a sworn house of his tried to act uppity. You can bet your ass they cooperated afterwards.

A coat of gold
a coat of red.

A lion still has claws
and mine are long, and sharp my lord
as long as sharp are yours.

And so he spoke
and so he spoke.
the lord of Castamere.

And now the rains
weep o'er his hall.

With no one there to hear.

Yes now the rains,
weep o'er his hall
and not a soul to hear.

This is the best version. It really conveys the terror that's supposed to be there when you're reminded of the Reyne-Tarbeck massacre.

Man tear...this song is so beautiful....even though it's about the slaughter of an entire family, including the children.
