Thanks, Gordon. You pointed out many differences between the A7 III and the A7R III that I was initially not aware of.

Yeah I think Sony pulled a Nikon D700 on us. D3 > D700 meant you could get most of a D3 at a much lower price. Same with the a7R III and the a7 III now. Although in this case, it's not the same sensor (like in the D3/D700), but you know...otherwise it's pretty close to the same. If the budget is even a slight concern and you were interested in the a7R III, it may be hard to pass up the a7 III.

Looks awfully tempting. I never liked how the A7 and A7 II got such weak video modes, but they've really stepped it up for this one. Seems like a nice choice for hybrid shooters that just want one body.

Here's my thoughts on the A7iii:

OMGOMGOMGOMG WANT!!

Brief and to the point.

Really appreciated your review – particularly when comparing the A7 iii to the A7R iii (and a9) as you were walking us through the features. I'm in a dilemma now though. Sony has done a fantastic job with the A7 line up... It really makes your mouth water at the prospect of what the A7S iii will bring to the party.

Thank you so much for covering the EVF! No one else really mentions it. It's good to know that it isn't all that terrible despite being a lower resolution.

Interesting camera and probably for most people, a far better option in terms of value for money than the higher end Sony models though I'm still not tempted, the investment is in the glass not the camera bodies !

Hi Gordon, i've been watching your video since the beginning of my career as a photographer and videographer, 9 or 10 years ago i'm not sure, but this video makes me want to buy the A7 III, thank you for good work through the years, keep it up!

Preordered mine this morning! Will replace my 5D2, but I’ll hold onto my Canon glass.

Nice to see Sony willing to push down such gains to lower prices too.

After all, I don't think that Canon or Nikon will make a model that features so much... for that price.

Hey Gordon, do you have an idea about what might be the best (or one of the best) relatively affordable Telephoto Lenses for the Sony EF full frame mount? Seems to be very difficult to find relatively affordable telephotos for it- are there any you know of? Thanks very much

A while ago I switched from Pentax to Nikon APS-C with the D7100. I was considering upgrading to the D750. With this A7 III, I might still want to do that, but only once it starts hitting the market. Because at that point, D750 owners may want to sell their older cameras/lenses for cheaper prices.

No apps is a big thumbs down from me, I like my timelapse, digital filter and smooth reflection apps, plus 200, 000 shutter release equals 1p per shot, careful with that 10fps ;)

You pointed out a really interesting bit of information that I haven't heard on other reviews: the RIII shutter is rated to 500k and the III is only rated to 200K - so you get a 250% more robust camera mechanism design for only 60% more cost. In my opinion, this is the biggest differentiator and thus advantage from a truly "pro" camera who earns their living from their gear (RIII, A9) to a "pro-sumer" or hobbyist level camera.

Great overview as always Gordon! Does the a7iii have a clear image zoom function? Thanks.

Pretty impressive all that for £2000. The days of APS-C are over. I remember thinking owning a full frame digital camera was pie in the sky thinking, but its steal compared to m43 for photos. However compared to the GH5, in terms of video features and creative features it seems very lacking - too hobbled to save its siblings. I actually love m43 for the greater DoF at the same aperture for video, but for photos these new Sony's are really tempting from a Stills perspective.

Would this camera or the a7s 3(coming soon) be the preferred choice for filming movies? Considering low light performance, colors, etc.
