also for the essentials you are right it uses the wheels and the front caster wheel to map if you look at the wheel it is white and black and it as it rotates it sees how far it’s going and tries to do the perimeter then move in straight lines

Thank you i just bought this on sale at Best Buy. My home is mostly hardwood floors and tile. It ran for over an hour mapping and still didn't do it.

Hola amigo. Llevo tiempo viendo sus videos, me ayudaron mucho a elegir mi robot dreame l10s ultra. Anteriormente e tenido muchos robots y e reparado también muchos. Roomba esentials y otros modelos anteriores de irobot, hacen su "mapa" o navegación con la rueda giratoria delantera. Si te fijas tiene dos colores, blanco y negro. Debajo de la rueda hay un sensor que detecta los cambios de color de la rueda, puedes sacar la rueda y verás el sensor.
Espero haber resuelto tu duda, al igual que usted me ayudó a resolver las mías.

if you have tile do not buy this model it slip and slides like crazy terrible experience
