I like how she still finds ways to give the foods she doesn’t enjoy a compliment! ✊
Edit: I don’t wanna be that person but… thanks for all the likes! ❤️❤️🫶🏻

In the US we had similar places that were called Automats. They were sit down restaurants, but sort of cafeteria style where you slide in your nickle and open the little window to grab your item. Popular in the 50s & 60s. I love old movies, and they would always have scenes where the characters got lunch there.😆

Hi Karissa, the sausage is called Frikandel. Very popular in the western parts of Germany, too! 😊

When you pulled that burger out, I could tell it wouldn't be too good. The ice cream looked like heaven.

How fun and so many choices! Fun fact, in the US, mainly New York, during the 40's and 50s, those were called automats. This was the original cheap fast food before the likes of BK and McDonald's.

Frikandel (the meat stick) is made with mechanically separated meat, which is the meat that doesn't get used otherwise and is left on the carcass. It's something that prevents unnecessary food waste. It's pretty common knowledge. It's not healthy in the slightest, but that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

Was in Ams recently and unknowingly passing by the first FEBO ever. Fun fact, FEBO got its name from the street its first shop is in: FErdinand BOlstraat. Anyway, maybe should try them sometime. So far I much prefer Smullers.

Horn & Hardart gave the US a similar concept. I can remember watching black&white tv shows and movies with my mother that showcased it. She would recall that time of excitement like a kid experiencing a new phone or game now. 🤔😊

I’m so jealous I wish I could afford to fly all over the place, first class and just shop and eat and experience all the different cultures and beautiful places. This is like my dream. Crazy how it’s so easy for other people and so damn hard for others. 😢 so lucky and blessed. 😫

The sausage is a Frikandel and we usually don’t eat it without a condiment. It’s usually cut in half, but not all the way through and the slit is either filled with mayonnaise or even better: with mayonnaise and curry ketchup, topped with small pieces of raw onion🤤. The last combo is called a “frikandel speciaal” or when you put it on a bun, a “broodje frikandel speciaal”. I’d highly recommend anyone who visits The Netherlands to try frikandel this way!
