The Launchpad App and Launchpad hardware are designed to work perfectly together .

Launchpad S is the evolution of Novation's best-selling Launchpad 64-button grid music controller -- with much brighter buttons, significantly faster refresh rate and it supports multiple software. It's MIDI Class Compliant so it works with any MIDI software on your Mac or Windows PC. It even works on your iPad via a Camera Connection Kit (not included): Launchpad S converts your iPad into a grid-based music system: no additional power supply required, just plug in and play.

The Launchpad app is a totally self-contained iPad app where loops which can be triggered on an 8x8 grid. The app can be flipped between different modes that give you access to volume faders and FX buttons, for triggering filter and stutter effects.

The Launchkey app is a synth with a touch-screen interface for creating and morphing sound in multiple ways at the same time. Unlike a conventional synth you can 'grab' many sound-shaping parameters at once and move them around in a single action to make dramatic or subtle changes to the sound.

You can use a 8th inch to quarter inch (1/4) cord the head phone jack of the Ipad to your interface or if you have a USB hub you can use a interface that is class compliant.

Launchpad uses the Apple Camera Connection Kit and the USB lead that came in the box to connect to iPad.

You must plug the USB cable into the Launchkpad first, then plug the other end into the Camera Connetion Kit. Finally into the iPad.

If you change the order of connection you may receive an error message on the iPad screen saying 'this accessory is not supported' or 'the attached accessory uses too much power'.

the app is iphone/ipad exclusive and free afaik, you should be able to midi map the launchpad to any DAW without the app.

the Launchpad S has more responsive AND brighter LEDs, can connect to an iPad/iPhone and can work with FL Studio, Reason and other DAWs. lol hope i helped :P

Hey Focusrite, I'm curious whether you can still use the Launchpad to cue other loops while in another app. My plan is to use Audiobus to run Launchpad and the Glitchbreaks app at the same time, but I want don't want to have to swipe back and forth between apps to change the loops. Thanks!

News, all of my Novation Products are running in sync with just my iPad.
Impulse 61, all knobs working in Launchkey with drum pad and arp, forward and rewind buttons select Launchkey preset, only one mixer volume working?
Launchpad S working in 3 modes, Grid, volume and filter
Launchcontrol working with Launchpad S with track, clip and filter and volume control and working with iPad at same time!
Using a powered USB hub, if either doesnt work simply unplug and plug in again
