How To Use a Laptop as a Second Monitor (Easy Windows 10 Guide)

If you are struggling to learn how to use your laptop as a second monitor for your desktop computer (or even another laptop) then this video will walk you through the entire process!

While most laptops have an HDMI port included, that port only works for output and you can't simply plug your laptop into another computer via HDMI to use it as a second monitor.

To use a laptop as a second monitor you will need to ensure that both your desktop and laptop are on the same network and then use Windows 10's built in wireless display feature.

Thanks a million. I've been struggling for hours and finally you made it look so easy by just moving the screens around. Mine was just moving it up or down.💪

I cannot like this enough. I don’t have a work set up at home and didn’t want to buy another monitor. Thank you so very much!

Solved my problem! Thank you for an informative & complete video. Wireless Display wasn't installed on my 1 year old Dell laptop, but your video was the only one that instructed me on how to add it. Kudos!

Thanks here too a year later. Your instructions were excellent and helped me re-purpose an old Windows 10 17-inch laptop as a monitor for my very modern Zenbook with a 14-inch screen. Now I'll be able to effectively use a photo-editing app and see what I'm doing clearly.

You should have definitely clarified that your desktop needs to be on a (or at least support) wireless network. Mine is wired with no wireless adapter and therefore this solution does not work.

Just some things I found out that he did not cover. If using 2 laptop's and no desktop, you will see an on/off button only use to projection to another computer when computer is plugged into power. You can switch this on and off depending how you use it. Also I had to have wireless display installed on both laptops.

Great video. This solves half of my problem. Now all I need to be able to do is use my laptop as a remote extension of my workstation from a different location.
