Muddy backyard fix if you have dogs - 4 year update.
We used pine shavings by Guardian, horse bedding. You can also use pine. Works great for muddy backyards with dogs! No more mud issue and it doesn't hurt their paws. Absorbs water and keeps mud underneath. One 8 cubic foot bag is good for a 15' x 15' area or possibly 20' x 20'.

The shavings were horrible for me cause it got all over my dogs, then all over my house. I tried horse bedding pellets and they've really helped. Hope you are doing well. 😊

Yeah, It took me a long time to realize it would be ok to use the cedar chips on the developing mud. I did it last fall and put seed and clover seed underneath. It has really worked well!

I'd rather vacuum up some cedar than wipe super muddy paws. I have 8 paws to wipe and my back gets tired.

Awesome idea, appreciate it and didn’t think of this before. I have large dogs and they rip up the yard playing around but in the fall and winter it’s a mud pit. Love my Pitbull Husky dogs so much

We foster dogs here in tn and while I love it, we at times have 5-8 dogs. And that wears out the yard come colder times.
Thankfully we have hardwood floors so it's not horrible but I'm definitely gonna do this. Hopefully it'll help my aussie fur stay cleaner longer too haha

I appreciate this video so much! We have a small town home backyard in ND where it is winter maybe 75 % of the year, and the transition from winter to spring or that weird in-between of fall going into winter is a nightmare. It is soooo muddy! We also have 2 dogs, a german shepherd mix and a border collie who are both mischievous lol. Can't wait to try your hack this spring! Thanks for the info. :)

May work great will short haired dogs. But I tried and my dog good dusty filthy dirty. Had to remove the pine. It was the pits.

Did you ever have problems with your dogs eating the cedar chips? Our Aussies eat anything. Getting a little better, but still, if you ain't watching them. Termites or other bugs? I've looked into pet turf, but that gets expensive if you want it done correctly.

I'm thinking about doing this to my small 18x30 backyard. Thank you for posting this long term update. I'm just wondering if you've had any issues with your dogs getting any paw splinters from the cedar shavings? or are they fairly smooth edged? thats my one remaining worry.

Try laying some thick husky plastic down (from Depot) prior to laying that stuff down, and pin it into ground. Will at least stop the mud
