In this math video I (Susanne) explain how to convert fractions to percents. We write the fraction with a denominator of 100 and get the percentage from the numerator. Mathematics explained.

Where was this gem of an instructor when I was a kid? ❤

I got a simpler way. 3 / 8. Divide the denominator into the numerator. You get .375. Multiply that by 100 and you get 37.5, or 37.5%

thanks for showing us how to do these in our heads!

After last week's calculus torture, this was very refreshing! I think I knew how to do all this in my head, intuitively, but it's been so long since I learned it in school I'd forgotten what exactly I was doing in my head. Awesome reminder that "percent" is "by 100, " which makes turning things into a percent much simpler!

Great class. If I had had teachers like you, my grades would have improved a lot more, and I'm not complaining. It's very practical and simple. I'll try to follow your channel.

I love your videos.

For percentages, instead of doing cross multiplying or anything, for weird denominator, I take 100 and divide it by the denominator to see what to multiply the numerator by to get the percentage.

Very clean method. I don't remember how I learned about these but it always felt easier for me to just multiply the upper part of the fraction by 100. For example if the fraction is A/B and I am looking for x %. x =100a /b. Just works better with my brain

12/16=0.75=75% It’s in my head. Input
12/16 = 0.75
Result
True
Left hand side
12/16 = 3/4
Right hand side
0.75 = 3/4
Logarithmic form
log(16, 12) - log(16, 16) = log(16, 0.75)

The first example allows for an intuitive solution, but it follows the normal rule: Multiply by 100. We multiply by 100 because we are multiplying by 100% (100% = 100 x 1/100 = 1; we are multiplying by 1, so we are not changing the number at all, just its presentation). 3/100 x 100% = 3%. It shouldn't be presented as an exception or special case, but I do understand that it is "special" in that it is so similar to the final form that you are seeking. Love your explanations and all videos!

Nice video. I think just making a ratio such to equal 100 such as:
63/90 = x/100
x/100 = 63/90
x = (63/90) * 100
x = 63/9*10
x = 70%
