In my college degree tier list video and other videos like the most worthless degrees or the top 5 college degrees that are actually worth it, I've mentioned that there are some majors where you don't actually have to go to university and get the college degree in order to land a job in that field. Depending on what job you're going for, criminal justice may fall under that category.

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice without student loans. I went to an instate, in- city public school. Currently, I’m an insurance agent specializing in auto and commercial lines. I took classes in commercial law which helps me in my career. Criminal justice is a practical degree so long as it’s from a public college.

A criminal justice degree with a focus on humanities, history, cultural and sociological characteristics of its course, with a right amout of civil law education... Is what the US law enforcement badly needed right now..

I have a BS in Criminal Justice from John Jay. I have no student loans and paid my tuition while attending school. I started as a Criminal Justice Coordinator, then became a paralegal, and now joining federal law enforcement. I live in NYC, so it was easy to find a job. I graduated with honors and had a lot of work experience before graduating.

You are right Shane. I know three CCJS graduates working for the Government. A Lawyer, a Detective and one working for the bureau. I do not know how much salary they started out with (all three graduated in the early 2000s) but now they all make over six figures. You can look up their salaries as they are public servants, so I did

Thanks so much for these videos - 5 months ago I was set on doing psychology, then it was journalism because the unis here in the UK sell it to you like you're garenteed a great job stright out of uni. By researching the stats a lot more and watching your videos, I've saved myself from a useless degree and a waste of £60k, so I can't stess how thankful I am. I do business a level so am now thinking of working hard to get into a good uni doing international business :)

Take my advice, use your credits and transfer to an accelerated program for a stem degree. Transferred my credits to a nursing program and on my way to becoming a nurse within a year

I got this degree only after becoming a Police Officer. The State I live in (Texas) pays for the tuition for Officers to get this degree, so I went ahead and did it, because, why not. I get an extra $60 per paycheck, and I get extra points towards promotion. That's the only benefits I get from having a degree. I would not recommend this degree to anyone who is not already working in the law enforcement field. If you want to work in law enforcement, get a degree that will help in case you if get fired, indicted, sued, or if you find out this field is not for you.

I graduated in may 2020, right at the peak of the pandemic lol. There were no jobs for that whole 2020-21 year and I just felt devastated, I honestly lost my love/interest for CJ. I had been interning at NJ’s state police dept right before the pandemic. I couldn’t find jobs and people wouldn’t even give me a chance because I had no experience. It really sucks if I’m being honest. But now, 2 years after graduating, I’m trying to get back into it and see where I can just get in. I’ve been so confused these 2 years feeling like I wasted 4 years of college for nothing at times. I’m noticing I want to be involved with cyber crime but I’m hoping I don’t need a CS for that since I’m CJ :( this video game across at a perfect time for myself, to remind me that I do want to find something in the field. I hope all us CJ majors end up doing what they love in this field, as it can be very very tough. Blessings to all.

August Vollmer, considered to be the "Father of Modern Policing" stated almost 100 years ago: "The policeman's job is the highest calling in the world. Those who do that job should be the finest. They should be the best educated. They should be college graduates. That's what policemen should be."
It should not be about what the minimum qualifications are for a particular job would be, but how you can do everything possible to be the very best at that job. If you want to go into law enforcement, you need to have a deep understanding of psychology, sociology, criminal law, Constitutional law, the court system, racial issues, social issues, making quick life/death decisions, assisting people with various issues, etc. A good police officer does as much counseling to the public as enforcement. With everything going on right now, we need more educated officers, not less educated. Those screaming for police reform need to demand these officers have as much education as possible.

With a degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology. You can do this at ASU

You can become a

Police Officer 65-75k a year
Banking (Fraud Department/Anti-money Laundering) 55-61k a year
State Legislature 24k a year
Justice of the Peace 80-100k a year
Government Jobs 40k-120k a year (experience in that government field).

Just depends on what field you want to break into.

I just want to help clear some things. It really, really depends on the State. In my State police now start with $65, 000+ and they come with a pay progression plan, which is a whopping $80k to 90k. Also most departments and probation or criminal justice careers prefer a criminal justice degree or related sociology degree. Lastly, some require criminal justice and no other degree and that's up to local municipalities in my State.

Almost finished my course for community justice, I think the knowledge is worth it while the rest is learned on the job.

As a guy with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice I agree with this, I’m neither any better or worse off for having gotten my degree but I went to Lincoln University of Missouri so I didn’t accrue a ridiculous amount of debt to get said degree so I really can’t complain
