I'd say you did very well on this system, especially to be energy independent from National Grid. Once the grid goes down for a long term, those who didn't bother to prepare will come to your house because you did. But, seriously, you have more piece of mind than most of us.👍

OMG, it was amazingly expensive ! We've just built a 6kWp/10kWh LFP/5kW (Deye 1phase hybrid) system that costed $7000 with labour. We use it off grid. The 10kW 3phase version would have costed roughly $9000 with labour but we don't need that much power. (Hungary/Europe)

I like how this video shows how solar panels do not have to be placed on top of the roof of a house to work. It is much easier to access the panels this way.

I hope you did this like 4 or more years ago since a system that has 7200w solar with inverter and 14.3kwh battery only costs $6753 today. Many similar systems for around the same price.

I was getting concerned as something might have happened as I didn't see more videos. Hope all is well up in the great North. The weather has changed into Tornado season down here in the South West.

I searched for 2 years before I bought 8KW inverter, 12kw solar, 48kw battery, custom mounts, total 22000 usd or 30000 cad. Had a firmware problem as well swapped the inverter 20 mins, used the gen to charge up the top 45% of charge the old inverter never charged too. Haven't used the generator since or even come close to using it consuming 14.6 kw a day. If December is not working for you another string of vertical mount bi facials, good cloudy black hole sucking power and snow doesn't stick. 2790 array 580watts in clouds mid-day. 48kw battery was 9600usd.

Pieced together a 3kw setup with some used panels from SanTan and grabbed 10kwh of 2 100amp 48v lithium phosphate batteries and built some ground mounts from some lumber from home depot for 5k dollars for everything including some tools and all the wiring. Nice setup, but was awful pricey. My system will only run up to 30amps of 120v loads though, but for my usage was nice, I could be running 240 v loads if I doubled everything basically, doubt I will though.

How much did you have to use the generator to charge up the batteries this fall/winter? The cost of the Kohler generator should probably have been included because you could have used the smaller Harbor Freight generator you had as a backup if you were grid connected.

Although expensive in general terms, it's really a no-brainer. Especially with the rebate incentives. It will literally pay for itself. Plus, there are no power outages. You can't beat that no matter what "solar system" you live in! 😂

Great video! That said, does your whole-house generator kick in if your inverter is out of commission (i.e., needs to be repaired or replaced)? We will be off-grid in the Ozark Mountains, and that's a scenario we want to prepare for. Think we are better off asking those who live an off-grid lifestyle. Any advice is welcome!
