I'm a linguistics nerd and I appreciate the fact you said FEWER instead of less!

I sometimes use 1-3-1-3-1-3-4 and so on (you guess it) as it allows the thumb to just slide onto the keyboard reducing the move needed to play the key, and the transition 4-1 following is perfectly natural. I play easily twice as fast this way than 1-2-3 (I have trained years that way though).

That's how I was taught, too. Over time I learned other techniques on my own that produce better results. It's crazy how I had to unlearn so many things.

Been doing Hanon exercises to strengthen 4th &5th fingers.
What she says is so on point.

Lets start at the very beginning, a very good place to start. 🥰🤓👍🏽

my old piano teacher tried to teach me correct hand placement but I just *could not* lmao
so I've gotten really good at just.. doing whatever my hand is most comfy with 😢

Yes, less hand movements and repositioning but it would require a huge amount of time to practice finger works. Brahms has an exercise in his book doing chromatic with all 5 fingers

Lowkey mind-blowing how you're maximizing economy of motion

Would have been cool to hear how fast you can play it with the fingerings you recommended

I ended up discovering I did this the other day for really fast short chromatic phrases when improvising.

That is an awesome technique. Thank you for sharing that!

Your advice is similar to reenventin the weel. It's a lot easier to cross thumb over 3d finger rather then over 4th.

Yes I discovered this on my own I agree with you❤

I think in single direction chromatic you just have to use whatever you know you’re most comfortable but if it’s particularly slurred or detached then definitely one or the other

If you use 1234 starting on C, what do you use on B? 5? Not quite right. She's on the right path. 1234 only on G going up. Rest 13. Second movement of Saint Saens piano concerto will teach you all you need to know about this.

I first learned these fingerings when I had to play that really fast chromatic scale at the end of Liszt 1 first movement and it blew my mind lol

I think I'm far too familiar with the "typical" fingers to ever use the second pattern. I feel I can make faster predictions with just 1, 2, 3. I do use 4 and 5 at the end of a contrary chromatic movement when ready to move back inwards.

So is it a two octave run before it repeats? The one’s being C E G B D F A C? Or 4 3 4 3 3 4 3?
Thanks for your videos!
