I noticed that it happens often in the movie, like, could be just some kind of foreshadowing but also some kind emotion thing, like, the color changes depending of certain emotions or feelings

I knew his eye color shifts from yellow, though a few shades of orange, and finally red at key moments throughout the movie, but I absolutely missed this first one.

My guess is that D-16 eyes where supposed to change because he was angry about how Orion joked about throwing away the sticker.
Hence, the orange eyes

Also his eyes could have changed due to excitement, anger is an expression thats represent passion or eagerness

Perhaps the eye color doesn't change only when he's annoyed or angry, but everytime he feels any strong emotions. He was probably so happy or amazed that his eye color changed.

Also the location of the sticker is the same place Optimus usually has his autobot logo on himself. So in this version of Transformers his symbol location is in memory of his former friend.

It looks like his eyes change color when he is more good/evil. He might have had an evil thought about what he'd do to Orion if he DID try to throw the sticker out. After all, when his eyes went red, he was done saving Orion, and he took out sentinel.

He got really orange eyes during the scene with the High Guard bots, specifically after witnessing how incompetent Starscream was as their leader. Not to forget, D16 was really angry about Sentinel whom he idolized but in fact completely deceived him and the whole Iacon.
