Florida’s Escambia County Sheriff’s Office says “severe weather and torrential downpours” caught many people off guard, especially drivers. Deputy William Hollingsworth was one of the officers helping stranded motorists. The officer saw the person go underwater and attempted to rescue him. Authorities say the two men were underwater for about “30 seconds and traveled nearly 100 feet underwater.” The officer and citizen resurfaced on the other side of the highway, shocked to be breathing.

The officer still looking after the civilian after going through that traumatic experience is so kind.

I love that they shared this experience together. A bond that can’t break.

"Can you believe what just happened to us"
You can hear it in their voices. What an absolutely crazy experience that must have been for them.

Two men who will forever be bonded by the trauma. So glad that both of these men survived. God bless you both.

Holding your breatg for 30 seconds is no joke when you're fighting for your life and panicking being sucked under water. Respect to both men 🙏🏼📈🙆🏻‍♀

Started out as an officer trying to save a civilian ended with two humans who've been through an extraordinary event and just so glad they weren't alone and that they survived together.

It's amazing how these stories could start out where there's adults with their own roles in life and then right after all titles, ages, history etc is literally washed away. Like two boys, two souls, two people completely made equal by the pull of the water.

"Let's hold onto eachother." Man, that hit me right in the heart.

The nightmares both of these guys will have will be unforgiving. I'm glad they made it through, and I hope they stay in touch. This is literal nightmare fuel.

I was so terrified for them when I saw the footage of the water overtaking the bodycam, but it was so so relieving to see that both of the men got out of that situation alive and looking largely unscathed. I hope they're both doing well.

The fact that neither of them got stuck on anything under the water is such a miracle

As scary as this is, its so beautiful and inspiring at the same time.

Gave me goosbumps when the officer said "lets hold on to eachother" and to hear the comraderie and love they have is heartwarming.

Wow honestly reading the headline I did not expect them to survive but I am so glad that small glimmer of hope allowed me to click on this. What a beautiful moment of humanity. Bless them both.

As someone who has nearly drowned by waves at the beach, I can tell you that the moment your head is above water is the happiest moment of your life, or rather, you feel like the luckiest person alive!

The officer risked his life to save that man’s life he’s a hero and the man is a very good guy as well I’m glad these 2 people met up with each other and I’m glad they were both safe and alive after the incident 💯

My dad always warned my sister and I to stay away from those drainage pipes. Water is so much stronger than people realize, this has never rung more true.

I'm SO dang happy that they're both okay and made it out alive. I can't imagine just how scary that was for both of them.

I don't throw the word "hero" around lightly, but this cop is 100% it. No questions, just went right in after the poor guy. I'm glad they're both alright.
