I am getting DataFormat.Error telling me my file name is not a valid path if I use an excel workbook. But, if I use Access.Database it does not recognize the Database name as a good file type. Any idea what this error could be about? use different file names in my Parameter. Any idea what this error could be about?

You can change path from data sources also from front end. It is easier to manage all from there :) And a quick experience sharing: I am having all of my dimensions in 1 excel workbook and all the facts in a folder. With that, I am having only 2 sources. much easier to manage :)

Thank you very much. This was exactly what I needed. I'm working with a data source synced on Google Drive from two different computers. On each machine my user folder has a different name, and this tutorial solved my having to change the data source each time I changed computers. :-D

Hi Ruth! I'am confused about this: if I have many sources of data I need to create a Parameter for each one? Or there is a way to configure all the sources using the same parameter? Tks for your help.

Thanks. Very useful hint. "\" you can add to the query source code and use only name of files or folders without the "\". :)

Your video is really helpful and it is good functionality to have in report. I am trying to achieve something similar but I want to dynamically change the parameter based on value selected in slicer on report. Please let me know if you have done anything similar or you have any lead through which I can achieve this

Is there a way to get the logged on user name and set as a parameter? BI file is on OneDrive. If sharing the folder and that user wants to open the BI file I need the user name. Also the file path changes slightly which can be used as a parameter using your steps in the video.
So if there is a way to extract the computer user name that would be great.
Thanks, your videos are very helpful.

Great tutorial. I have a need to take this method one step further and cannot figure out how to make it work (tried many things). I would like to be able to use a single select from a slicer for a user to select a value that is then passed through to Power Query to be part of a URL that is a JSON API call. Using Parameters I have this working. I can also create the measure on the slicer to select the value. I cannot figure out how get this slicer value passed through to Power Query. if I can get this working, it will be a significant break through for the client I'm working with right now. I have an equivalent to this working in Excel, just need to get it working in Power BI.

Hi Ruth! Do you know if this solution works in the service with a Gateway, and how it can be parametrized there? I'm struggling with this right now :(

Thank you for sharing the video. I finally found a video that is very close to what i'm working on. Since I'm not at the advance level yet, it's hard for me to understand the in depth materials. I don't have Power BI but I do have the Power Query (this is my work computer). This is what I have to do every month. I will receive a file lets call it order report, and I am responsible to apply the reason code to this report. What I did was I create a query to connect two files together and apply the reason to the "Order Report" file. So, next month, I will receive another file and I will save to the same folder as well as my reason file. I don't want to create the connection every month but just click the refresh to get the reason codes apply to the "Order Report". I just can't connect the dots how the parameter will help me in this case. Do you think you can help me with this? Thanks.
