Adam Driver On Disney Mishandling Star Wars
Показать описание
Sooo if you are a fan of the disney era star wars movies, this video might not honestly be for you. I’m going to do my best to contain my emotions here, and I honestly don’t know why i am so upset over this. I kind of figured this was common knowledge or atleast commonly suspected but we are at a place now where even I, someone who has defended a lot of different aspects from the sequels like Kylo Renn and adam Driver, even I am regularly being given less and less reasons to. My name is Derek and I cover DC, Star Wars, Marvel, Horror, Anime, and other movies I like. We do news, reviews, rankings, breakdowns, and more! We are a small channel so liking the video really helps more than you know! Also make sure to subscribe for more content!

What am I talking about? Well of course Adam Driver has finally revealed what the creative process was like behind the scenes regarding developing Kylo Renns arc. Driver had this to say: “I had an overall arc that in mind that [JJ Abrams] wanted to do,” Driver continued. “His idea was that [Kylo’s] journey was the opposite journey of Vader, where Vader starts the most confident and the most committed to the dark side. And then by the last movie, he’s the most vulnerable and weak. He wanted to start with the opposite. This character was the most confused and vulnerable, and by the end of the three movies, he would be the most committed to the dark side. I tried to keep that arc in mind, regardless if that wound up not being the journey anyway, because it changed while shooting. But I was still focused on that.”
Driver said Rian Johnson took Kylo Ren’s original arc in “a different direction” with “The Last Jedi,” although “it still tracked with the character.” That wasn’t the case with “The Rise of Skywalker.” “The last one, it changed into being, you know, about them and the dyad, and things like that,” Driver said. “And evolving into Ben Solo. That was never a part of it. He was Ben Solo from the beginning, but there was never a version where we’d see Ben Solo when I first signed up for it.”
Now this goes completely in line with everything we already kind of knew about the sequel trilogy in a lot of ways. The first film was kind of a requel to star wars and was meant to remind people why they loved star wars (by using themes from the original trilogy and a lot of familiar looking places and bringing back legacy characters, and then the last jedi with rian johnson taking pretty much everything in a different direction from that, none of it felt like true george lucas star wars, none of it felt like they cared about this franchise which became such a popular cultural icon for multiple generations, and could boast the fact that it had a complete story. and then the rise of skywalker and jj abrams came by and said “of course we care, see! Some how we brought back palpatine! And it just is further evidence at this point if there was any shadow of a doubt about the kind of mishandling disney and lucasfiilm are guilty of when it comes to Star Wars.
I think the writing has been on the wall for the sequel trilogy for some time, even if you love all three films most people acknowledge that the trilogy is probably the most divisive out of the three trilogies, and certainly feels the most disconnected. but the more we hear statements like this from people directly involved in this trilogy regarding the directionless and the complete disregard of any sort of plan for the trilogy, or not committing to any sort of plan, and yes george lucas himself retconned certain things and made lots of changes, but nothing from the changes lucasfilm made none of the reactionary direction changes lucasfilm decided to go, ever actually ended up serving the story or this 9 film finale.
The reason im so upset still over not just this news but even the past comments from daisy ridley is because this trilogy could've been great and i wanted to love it. I still really want to love it. And i really love kylo ren and adam driver in this trilogy, he hands down is by far the best thing about these films. And as much as i want to try and fit these films and all of these gaping holes in logic, as much as i want to try and cram it into my head canon, but i cant ignore publicly known facts. Even the BEST character in this trilogy, in my opinion, in Kylo Ren didnt have the love or care behind the scenes for him to be crafted in a direction that had meaning or substance. For me i still enjoy his character and again i think his arc and his story and hell probably his acting as well was arguably the best thing about the sequel trilogy and for it to be now public confirmed fact, is honestly just sad and quite irritating.
