The African Flower Square

In this video I share how to make this lovely African flower square in crochet.
I made this blanket a couple of years ago and have had a lot of questions regarding it.

Details:

I used a 3.75 mm hook - the same one that is shown in this tutorial today.

Susan Bates Finishing Needle for Ends

The blanket is 36" x 54" - not including the scalloped border.
8 squares across and 11 high.
Each square is 4x4 inches

I did not participate in the crochet along - just wanted to use this color recipe for my blanket.
This one pack was all I needed for the blanket.

If you are in the USA, you can find the yarn here:
You won't find the sweetpea pack but here are all the colors in it:

This pack contains 15 balls of Stylecraft Special DK (100g), a 100% acrylic yarn, in the following shades:

Pistachio (1822)
Meadow (1065)
Cypress (1824)
Violet (1277)
Lavender (1188)
Wisteria (1432)
Clematis (1390)
Cream (1005)
Soft Peach (1240)
Candyfloss (1130)
Blush (1833)
Pomegranate (1083)
Fuschia Purple (1827)
Magenta (1084)
Plum (1061)

For the border, I first did hdc's all the way around in green (hdc, chn 2, hdc on corners) . Then, I did another round on this with sc's in the same color I was planning for the scallop edge (purple) . The scallops consisted of 7 dc's with sc's between each to anchor them down. If you want to see a video on how to do this , let me know.

Thank you for no long introduction with silly music...like the beginning of a movie I enjoy all your tutorials. You teach clearly and quietly...without telling us all about your worries and woes!! You have a Perfect Touch. Blessings to You and Yours

So beautiful. Thank you. I love the fact that you explain the theory of each round to allow us to get the bigger picture. I will always remember the ‘P’ tip too. That will be invaluable in the future. Love this!!

I have crocheted for about 8 years now, and I have to say I have so happily picked up so many new techniques and tips from your experienced hands! Like looking for the letter "P" tip. Ty so much. I know this is an older video, but I will keep picking through your playlist to play hooky with yarn regardless!

Roz, I so fell in love with creating this square that after a while of starting a blanket, realized that I have enough blankets and thought that I’d like a wearable. Except for scarves I’ve never made a wearable, so it was a challenge. I’m now putting it together to make a large cardigan and can’t wait to wear it and see how it all turns out. Thank you for introducing me to this lovely and fun square!

Thank you so much for helping me to complete an afghan that I started some 40 years ago for my son. There was once a pattern which I have been hunting for the past few months to no avail. I decided to find some more modern granny squares and in doing so have just completed this square. Most granny squares just didn't work with the instructions given but yours was by far the best one I found! The reason I have decided on completing this afghan was because some squares were done by my mom and will be a nice keepsake for my son or his two newborn sons! Thank you again and am looking forward to future videos.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I knew the basic stitches of crocheting, but never knew how to follow a pattern. Your easy instructions have given me a good start to learning. I now have one compete square done and ready to complete all of them. Thanks again.

Wonderful tutorial, thank you for making it for us! Your square doesn't ruffle compared to other tutorials I've seen. Love how you make your corners with the treble crochets.

I just made one, woot! That was fun, following your tutorial. I think I'll be using standing stitches more and more often in future. I like that it eliminates some knots in the work. Thanks as always, Roz!

Thank you for the instructions. I love african flowers. Many times I block squares with steam from an iron. It helps crochet the squares in correct stitches. I am making a pillow cover for the couch. Daisy and Blackeyed susan colors. Thanks again. I have subscribed.🌻
