The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) yesterday
launched the MIROS PC3 crash Lab. The lab is the first in this region
which complies to the Global New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) and
recognised by that governing body.
Officiated by His Royal Highness Prince Micheal of Kent, patron of the
Commission for Global Road Safety, the facility, capable of simulating
crash speeds up to 80km/h is built in the Malaysian Road Transport
Department training Academy in Melaka.
For the launch, a Vios was crashed at 65km/h offset into a barrier.
According to MIROS director General, Associate Professor Dr Wong Shaw
Voon, this type of crash is the most common in the country. He also
announced that seven models based on the most popular around the
region.
"The seven models is our phase one, it will be based on the most
popular and it will be the base model that the manufacturer offers in
the whole region," explains Wong.
