As someone who pretty much pays nothing for uni, "just 400$" sounds absolutely insane

For every non-American saying this is too expensive: one semester of tuition at the *discounted* in-state rate is usually several thousand dollars minimum, not including thousands in additional fees and living expenses. Per credit is commonly $500-$800 and most courses are 3-4 credits each. To get 3 credits for, say, the Rhetoric class on Study Hall for $400 is legitimately a *much* lower price, especially because you don't have to pay if you don't like your grade. Paying to fail classes is a huge driver of student debt. (Yes this sucks and yes we hate it and yes you're very lucky if you live in a country where this is not the case.)

I do not understand American University but this sounds like a good thing, so thank you for promoting it.
Happy P4A everybody

I always liked intro to coding, because they gave me problems I could solve. In stark contrast to _advanced coding_ or anything alike...

Paying 400$ for a one course worth of credits seems just utterly overpriced to me. And then I again I realize how lucky I am to live in a country where the Semester at a top university is under that price for as many credits you can manage…

I tried doing an online self-paced coding course a couple of times. I got bored halfway through. I tried doing the same thing with excel VBA more specifically when I wanted to learn to automate some stuff at my job. Except that time, I got bored very quickly but had just enough of the fundamentals to Google my way into how to do what I actually wanted. And that taught me WAY more because suddenly I was learning with examples that made sense to me - I understood how they were applicable because I was learning by applying them. Still needed to go through some of the boring stuff though lol

I'm so glad to live in a country with free higher education, 400$ seems so expensive

I learnt coding by python turtle, making calculators (voltage, current, force, pressure, weight) and making ui with tkinter. Then running doom on a fitbit. Never ever watched any tutorial just stack overflow.

In Norway you pay like $50 and that goes to the student organisation in your city that sort out housing, man the canteens, fitness centers, etc. And loans from the state to cover housing and basic living expenses are pretty favorable as well!

note: Europeans/Folks who think this is way overpriced. Save this for your American friends. This could save them time and money.

I hated intro to coding also. It made me change my major to “multimedia” (which seems to be an archaic term now, content creation is more like it nowadays).

I literally still can't do those "make shapes in the terminal" exercises and I've been working as a software engineer for 12 months.
