Engage Emotionally- Start With The Why. What Doesn't Work- Simple Reading, Highlighting And Underlining by itself, straight re-reading
1)HAVE STUDY AREA
2)HAVE HABITS AND ROUTINE- make it second nature
3)STUDY YOUR WEAKNESSES- for improvement
4)WHAT STUDY METHOD WORKS FOR YOU- ie mnemonics
5)BE PROACTIVE- engage all senses, make sure you understand the topic
6)TEST YOURSELF- give your self questions regularly and early
7)STUDY GROUP/FRIEND- find best person for job, inspire you, educated etc
8)RIGHT TECHNOLOGY- helps efficiency

I find it very hard to sit down and read through a text book for long periods, so I have to frequently walk around the room and write onto a white board.

I'm not a teacher/lecturer but I imagine myself lecturing students on the the subject I am learning. It's a great way to recall the subject and learn what you don't know or don't understand and then focus on your weak points.

I agree 100% when I started to practice questions and flash cards earlier my study become more efficient and less time consuming than Re reading the text again and again

I think an important thing is to keep things simple too.
I used to do crazy diagrams on top of mental memory methods on top on notes etc.
Now, in medical school, I've realised that it's just not feasible to fit in so many different methods because of the sheer quantity of the content.
Keeping it down to a few methods have helped me so much.

Watched this video at a right time ! The most essential aspect I wasn't aware of was to study at a happy place and uplifting my weaknesses instead of being discouraged by the challenges. It had always been my desire to study at the university of Toronto, really looking up to you, I Feel INSPIRED.

Hi, Dr Jude, I'm going into Core Surgical next month and this was pure gold. Much love and when I get the MRCS, you'll be the first person I write to thank. 💙

Somewhere you will not be distracted...
My daughter comes in talking about what god knows🤣
I read from 12 midnight to 4am everyday. The distraction is REAL😐

Very helpful stumbled across you after being out from nursing for 3.5 while fighting cancer and now wanting to return before my revalidation expires, l have a big task ahead of re- learning all my knowledge. I had only worked for 6 months as a newly qualified nurse. Post more on tips, on studying, and thanks so much😷🤓

Hey... i am 65, learning to draw and do water colours. i will find a buddy, that's really good advice, someone to push me. but the best part was about being happy to pursue, persist and find my place where i learn and work. there is a lot of learning and practice to do, but its a whole lot easier when i think i am doing it cause i am enjoying. So, that's why happy place is so important. you really made me finally understand what i missed out at Uni. long ago. thank you. i won't be saving lives and doing such important things like you and so many other people who will benefit from your kind and encouraging advice, but, I will save me.... thank you.

I wish I watched this video before starting nursing school!! I'm half way through now, but I constantly struggle with finding a proactive studying technique that is beneficial to my learning. I have been pulling 8 hour days of "studying" throughout the semester (15 weeks) but when it comes time for exams it is difficult to pull and apply the material.

Excellent. Recall is a muscle. Needs priming every day. I love learning.
