The Rolling Stones Live, 25/10/1964, Ed Sullivan Theatre, NY

As many pop acts at the time, the Ed Sullivan show had to be the go to place for up and coming talent. And just coming fresh out of Paris, where the Stones were really popular, they flew to the USA. This single handily made the Stones late Autumn tour instantly successful, cementing their name in the US.

Around and Around - 1:00
Time is On My Side - 4:11

The Rolling Stones had only played 2 songs, both covers. The songs selected I find interesting as it didn't show off their first single in the States, "Tell Me", which was actually an original. But Around and Around from their album earlier that October, and Time is On My Side, the single. All in all, this is a great bit of early Stones footage.

I like early Jagger when he doesn’t quite know what to do with himself. Those little hops and that shaky leg are cool.

I think what’s so special about the stones is they never lost that blusey rock and roll sound, they just evolved.

Yeah. 60 years (and counting!) of time was on their side.

The “Jones stones” my favorite era of the band.

Insane to think that this same band from 60 years ago just released a brand new song 3 days ago, and it still kicks ass. Greatest rock band ever.

I'll be turning 70 in a couple of months and lived through the 60s. There will never be another decade so wild and scary and socially conscious. I saw the Stones in a couple of early concerts and they're still rockin' it to this day. Awesome!

Ed knew what to put out there. He did the same thing for the Beatles. The man laid the United States open for both these historic bands.

Ah, Sunday nights when the Stones would be on Ed Sullivan... I was 12 for this and feigned illness so that I didn't have to go to Sunday night church services. My dad would pull the tubes from the television, but he didn't know that I'd watch it over at an accommodating neighbor's house! The British Invasion was a sensation!

Mick Jagger is celebrating his 80th birthday today July 26, 2023
He is the lead vocalist and one of the founders of the rock band The Rolling Stones. He and guitarist Keith Richards have written most of the band's songs together; their songwriting partnership is among the most successful in history. Jagger's career has spanned over six decades, and he has been widely described as one of the most popular and influential frontmen in the history of rock music.
