I've been on the ketogenic diet for 45 days and its life changing...never going back. My athletic performance is back to my 25 year old days (i'm 50), after I adapted to burning ketones instead of carbs. You have to go long enough to break out of the carb addiction before you'll see results, and at first its depressing, but the energy, stamina and lean body you'll get is amazing.

For the majority of the US population eating carbs raises insulin to the point of fat storage. Would you not agree ?

Thanks for the video. Reading the title I was expecting you to go into what is the lie of Keto. I think you missed some of the benefits but I think you made some good points.

For those who dislike his video, It's no point of going off on someone who has a different viewpoint or opinion. Everyone has a different body composition and genetics plays a huge part in this. Just take the information and decide to apply it or not. He took the time to try and provide his assistance whether right a wrong

Hi Todd. You stated ketosis diet is not the answer for loosing fat. Did you make a video on how to loose fat?

you should do the numbers for someone who does a ketogenic diet for a year. If they make a true lifestyle change and not just a short timespan as in your example the results for muscle loss do not stay consistent. If they did, individuals in ketosis for a year or more would shrivel into nothing. But they don't because your example here is as flawed as the water weight muscle comparison you show here doesn't reflect long term results. A fad diet would be an example of the timeframe you represented here. The information is useless if you can't make a long term comparison.

Hi Todd. I would encourage you to look more into the Ketogenic diet, I think you have it wrong in some areas and don’t tell the full story. I don’t think that it is the perfect diet for everyone, but it will be for some. The client that you referenced most likely was not consuming enough fat, too many carbs, or too much protein. If you consume too much protein, your body will convert it to glucose. If your consuming too many carbs and proteins your body will resist the change to fat burning, and cause muscle loss as they are torn down for fuel. I have been on the Keto diet for 8 months now and never had the experience you referenced with your client. My progress has encouraged 3 other active friends to start, and they are also seeing great results. I was not overweight and worked out 5 days a week before and after I started the diet. Since going Keto I have more energy and have seen huge gains. The lower levels of insulin naturally increase growth hormone that promotes muscle gains. Added bonus, it has also been the only thing that prevents me from having nasty cancer sores in my mouth year-round. I’ve been counting macros, and measuring body fat % for a long time. I have seen the best progress on Keto. For someone to truly be keto they need to be consuming approximately 75% fat, 20% protein and 5% carbs. I don’t think carbs are evil, and still enjoy a cheat meal once a week or two. Keto isn’t just for weight loss, I’m currently bulking on Keto and I am seeing great results. As you mentioned in episode 18 it comes down to calories and consistency to see weight loss, and that can happen on a carb or fat based diet. I don’t crave sugar anymore and find it far easier to stick to a keto lifestyle than eating healthy fats instead of carbs, others may as well.

Actually Thequestforhealth that's a huge misconception about keto. And by the way Todd great job at glosses over information. If your client doesn't adjust her protein intake for her activity level she is going to lose muscle irregardless of they diet she's on. I now know who not to contact for advice.

If you eat a low or zero carb diet you already know this. I restricted my carbs and lost 100 pounds. That wasn't all water my friend.

the Ketogenic diet is used much more for just fat loss. It's not about calorie in/calorie out... yeah that will work for the short term but it's a hormonal imbalance, not an energy imbalance... you didn't mention anything about insulin, leptin, ghrelin. If a "calorie restricted" diet/lifesytle actually worked we would not have an obesity epidemic. a calorie is not a calorie. being on a ketogenic diet has been shown to help with epilepsy, and also completely reverse type 2 diabetes. CURE type 2 diabetes as long as they live a ketogenic lifestyle. I'm sorry but your closing statements were completely false! it is sustainable because thousands of people are doing it and have been doing it and if you look at the literature prior to the 1960's if you wanted to loose weight you would restrict sugars and carbohydrates. I would recommend looking into the works of Dr. Jason Fung. Gary Taubes, Vinnie Tortorich, Jimmie moore, mark Sisson, Ron Rosdale, Dr william davis, Dr Mark Hyman, Robert Lustig, eric westman, david Ludwig. Im sorry sir but your example means nothing given the bigger picture. You didn't even explain what ketone bodies are and how they are used in the body... your example is flawed and I challenge you to really look into the research of a high fat low carb lifestyle.

Complete malarkey nonsense BS. I don't even know where to start. Muscles do not crave carbs. ALL of the glucose your body needs is produced by the body. You can go from birth to death in a long healthy life eating zero non fibrous carbs. Try that with fat, Todd.

People do not need to return to carbs, there's no reason to. Some do, sure, they're everywhere and sugar and pasta taste good, but that's for reasons other than need. Alcohol is everywhere and some alcoholics go back to drinking it too, they don't have to and shouldn't, but we are humans.

Endurance athletes perform better on low carb high fat than the insulin rollercoaster athletes. How is that possible if the muscle craves carbs? (hint: It rhymes with "it's not possible")

Random controlled study - Ultra endurance athletes - look at the muscle glycogen storage, Todd:

"Another key finding: Despite their low intake of carbs, these fat-burning athletes had normal muscle glycogen levels -- the storage form of carbohydrates -- at rest. They also broke down roughly the same level of glycogen as the high-carb runners during the long run, and synthesized the same amount of glycogen in their muscles during recovery as the high-carb athletes."

This study shows _fully keto adapted_ athletes burn fat at twice the rate of carb eaters so, no, it's not just water weight, that's just initial weight loss. Let's start there:

"Elite endurance athletes who eat very few carbohydrates burned more than twice as much fat as high-carb athletes during maximum exertion and prolonged exercise in a new study -- the highest fat-burning rates under these conditions ever seen by researchers."

As usual, another mouth piece that doesn't understand ketosis adaptation takes months, not days, and any discussion that doesn't take that into consideration is just babbling.

You can go on a PROPER keto diet and lose zero muscle, Todd. Why not tell your cult that?

Nice belly fat Todd. Just sayin'.
